To answer the question, yes, many unfortunately do. I would like to point out however that this mindset runs rampant not just in the US black population, but in pretty much any country that was colonized. Having a diverse group of friends, I can vouche that this same mentality penetrates many Latin American cultures as well, including the Philippines. Food 4 thought

yes, and its not only about skin color, some black girls have told me in the past that i have good hair? xD, I think their natural hair is ok just as straight hair is ok.

Also as tyra already said, the media is the most influential in this matter.

I'm an army brat... and I'm pretty much the same color as Bey, maybe a slight shade lighter, and of all places I've lived... it was NEVER a problem until we lived in The South (Georgia). The racism and "black on black" racism was just... shocking. I was shocked. I'm still shocked. But what are you gonna' do? -kanyeshrug-

Here's the thing, America, in general, puts a Premium on light skin.

I'm light-skinned , and I have noticed that there is a slight, light privilege(think white privilege to a lessor extent),

Studies have shown that Darker skinned individuals get harsher Jail sentences than light skinned individuals. And Black people all together get harsher sentences than White individuals.

It stems from slavery. The darker ones were treated worse, while the lighter ones got preferential treatment, because in many cases, they were the Master's children.
