Beyoncé - 7/11
According to herself with her album selftitled album
Beyoncé tried to push the limits of pop music and the way music is marketed and released. While her release strategy surely pushed some limits her music was not on par with the hype and acclaim the album received with a few exceptions such as
Haunted,Drunk In Love or Blow. Now she is re-releasing her album with a
More EP and the lead single titled
7/11 makes me wonder if she has given up on pushing limits, Instead to continue to work on complex and daring songs like Haunted or Flawless she finds herself back on a very safe party song. Lyrically there is not much to discuss. The song is clearly intended to be lighthearted and fun and the lyrics and production are very monotone throughout most of the song except for the trippy outro.
Final Say:
7/11 is much more fun than most straight up party songs released these days but still Beyoncé stays far behind her capacities on the lead single.
6,5/10
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
The soundtrack for the third Hunger Games was curated by non other than modern indie pop genius
Lorde. And her influence is obvious from the first song. The production sounds very similiar to Lorde's debut album but a lot more chaotic andopulent. The most stunning thing about the record however are the lyrics.Rarely has a sountdrack every captured the atmosphere and events of a movie so well in a soudtrack. Right on the opener and highlight
Meltdown Pusha T raps
Who to trust who to love/ Who to run from who to hug capturing Katniss' confusion and trust issues after.
I am locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me and
They're closing in and I know where we're going /but I don't know who I'll be are just some more examples of the lyrics reflecting the movie. Between all the amazing songs there is some downers like
Lost Souls or
Dead Air but overall the soundtrack stands as cohesive and amazing album.
Final Say: Lorde managed to mix artists from completely different genres together and with her vision turned it into one of the most interesting and movie oriented soundtrack in recent memory. The Mockingjay sountrack is amazing in the way that it is great pop music on its own but in combination with the movie it gets even more intense and thrilling.
Best song: Yellow Flicker beat, Meltdown
