It's tricky for Bey. Her music isn't easy to digest, i'll admit that as a fan. I love it, but songs like Ring the Alarm, Diva and Partition are not going to appeal to a very broad audience. Unlike for instance Adele and Taylor Swift, her music is quite harsh, loud and sometimes a bit "vulgar", not just talking about the lyrics, but the production too. She's not driven by melancholy melodies, but more by rhythm/beats. Her previous albums were pretty vocal-centric and people either love or hate her vocals, that's because her tone is piercing.
We'll see what happens with this album. I think it'll appeal to more people because her vocals are subdued, the production is very progressive and some songs are very melodic and nostalgic.
