After revealing earlier this week that her planned album, 'S/E/X', was scrapped, Paige Elliot also revealed that a new single would be released this weekend. It was stated that she wanted to go in a different direction, with the material on 'S/E/X' being too "intense" for what she wanted.
"The new single's probably the best single choice for the new album," Elliot stated upon the press release for the new single. "It's one the label really wanted, and I know it may sound a bit generic, but it's still one I like. It's better than me having to record a song I don't like so the label can score a quick hit. It's the best for all of us."
Elliot also stated that "The Queen" was the "happiest" song on the album, also comparing the darkness of the album to the direction she wanted:
"With 'S/E/X', everything was so... Vulgar. It was my original intent to be that way, and bring more awareness and openness to sex and stop it from being a taboo, but I realized I didn't want that. I didn't want to go down the drain becoming some skank artist and be mistaken for doing things for shock. Now, the new album is dark, just like 'S/E/X' was... But it's totally different. Sex may be a part of it, but it's not the main concept by any means. That said, 'The Queen' is probably the happiest and lightest song on the album. That's part of why my label wanted it to be the lead single... But I think it works, so that's how it's going to be."
The new single, titled "The Queen", was premiered on Saturday Night Live last night and released for digital download this morning, while being sent to radios tomorrow.

"The Queen" is a Eurohouse-oriented song, with a heavy dance beat and many layered synths. The song also draws from electro elements, while definitely remaining an original pop song. Lyrically, the song describes the singer, Paige Elliot, as a Queen reflecting on her life through the first verse, while then moving on to say she'll rise to power again in the chorus but also pleading with her current lover to let her go so she can rule. Elliot stated earlier this week that the song can reflect on being torn between your personal and private life, while also saying it represents her being strong after a past relationship (Presumably after the divorce from her ex-husband, David Elliot).
The song opens to simply heavy drums, soon accompanied by a grinding, layered bassline featured throughout the song as Paige begins to speak in a low voice over it. As the bass begins to grow with some synths added, her voice becomes more harmonious before it suddenly cuts off to an instrumental section, featuring bubbling synths that slowly grow before soft drums are added, along with a piano and building synths. The song then erupts into the chorus, with the bassline from earlier added again along with higher synths following the rhythm with a strong melody added. The chorus has been described by Elliot's sister as "anthemic", before the chorus returns to just the bassline for the spoken lines again. A short post-chorus is delivered, similar to the first verse, before it returns to the instrumental section with no drums. It continues to build for the remainder of the verse when her vocals return, lacking a piano and drums but the synthetic melody continuing to rise. After the chorus plays once again, the song begins to decrease in build, typical for most EDM songs, with elements being taken away until it finally ends and fades out.
The music video for the song was directed by Francis Lawrence and Terry Richardson, though Elliot insisted on overseeing the entire project. Elliot's manager and label representative, Carlton McGuire, stated:
"The single's cover is from the video. There's a lot more to it than just that, but that's a great shot from it... She's basically in that bigass house, and it's mostly empty, but there are some great... Visions, I guess? I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but Paige has a great idea for what's going on, and she gets crazy and jumpy when people ask about it, so I decided to not question her and just let it go as it is, because it looks great."
The video is due to release later this week, along with several other treatments for Elliot's usual singles.

Try as they all may
I'll always be the Queen
Power running through my veins
The ruler from their dreams
Full Lyrics
CHORUS: 0:15 - 0:45 (SPOKEN):
Try as they all may
I'll always be the Queen
Power running through my veins
The ruler from their dreams
Try as they all may
I'll always be the Queen
Power running through my veins
The ruler from their dreams
I'll rise up again
I'll take on the world
I want to be their Queen
But I can be your girl
VERSE: 1:00 - 1:28
I've lived a life of glory
And had all my pleasures
I've gotten all my riches
And been given many treasures
Sometimes I don't know how
I can live as your sweet wife
When I have so many other things
To fulfill throughout my life
CHORUS: 1:30 - 2:15
I'll rise up again
I'll take on the world
I want to be their Queen
But I can be your girl
Bring me to the throne
And watch me on the screen
I've always been your woman
Now let me be their Queen (SPOKEN):
Try as they all may
I'll always be the Queen
Power running through my veins
The ruler from their dreams
Try as they all may
I'll always be the Queen
Power running through my veins
The ruler from their dreams
POST-CHORUS: 2:16 - 2:31
Royal blood is inside me
I'll come back to reign
I dream of love and peace
I'll rule without pain
VERSE: 2:46 - 3:14
The battle's hardly over
And the war is far from done
Though they still come at me
I know that I have won
I'll take us through the land
And bring us to our God
We'll see our coming Heaven
And leave them all awed
CHORUS: 3:16 - 4:02
I'll rise up again
I'll take on the world
I want to be their Queen
But I can be your girl
Bring me to the throne
And watch me on the screen
I've always been your woman
Now let me be their Queen (SPOKEN):
Try as they all may

Paige Elliot on Saturday Night Live
From Last Night
Paige Elliot appeared on Saturday Night Live tonight, dressed in a stunning short, figure-hugging black leather dress along with a Victorian-inspired choker necklace and killer black, strappy heels. As usual for most of the guests on the show, Elliot took part in various skits on the show, including one that was called the "highlight of the episode" with Elliot along with old cast members Kristen Wiig and Amy Poehler who had left the show earlier for a skit involving the three playing each other (Wiig as Poehler, Elliot as Wiig, and Poehler as Elliot), where, sometime in the future, the three have taken over the world and insisted on making it completely different. The skit was praised for its obvious comedy and the inclusion of Poehler and Wiig rejoining the show for the episode, along with Elliot being the special guest star for the night.
Elliot later went on to perform a song, which later turned out to be the premiere of her new single, "The Queen". The song was stripped down to an acoustic set of drums and the synths played out with a keyboard and a guitar on the set, though some elements of the song were played through the performance area's speakers.
Reception of the song was amazing, also sending the ratings through the show's roof due to the premiere of the song, though it wasn't until the following day, Sunday, April 13th, that the studio version would be revealed.
Don't tell me I needed to put so much effort in that game for absolutely nothing.
Robbie.
But neither of you guys (yeah, only you two submitted anything) sent a list so I'm thinking of just putting last weeks towards this weeks chart. Also it's one less thing to worry about with the update coming.

Does that mean I don't get the thread title this week? And we had to send in a promo list in order to get this week's thread title?
Well to get it on the charts, yeah. I don't do that whole trying to fish around for promo thing.
I don't understand. I thought we played the mini game to get the chart for the following week, and it would contribute to that week, meaning that since I won the mini game this past week, the thread title would be mine this week and contribute to the chart for this week. I didn't have anything out last week and I was planning on releasing (as I did) & promoting this week since I'd have the thread title. Am I missing something?

Well it counts for the week that you submit it. So technically the one that you submitted counted for last week.
But this week lasts weeks is going to count. It's the only time that will happen.
As to create a more interactive and transparent game, some twists are being added to the game. These twists allow people to continue to play the way they are if they feel like the tradition of the game is being too threatened for them, but also allows a more clear way to figure out who deserves what spot. Also, it's always really bothered me that this game doesn't reflect real life promo positions.
First change: Tour date value
I think a really major issue that we were having was that tour dates weren't being accounted for in the manner that everyone thought they were. Just to be sure and to more solidify what's happening there, I'm making a set value for them. They'll be worth 5 points for album sales, and 2 points for single sales.
Second change: Co-hosts
Basically there's going to be two extra charts every week. Those two, along with mine, will be averaged out for the final chart. The two co-hosts will have their own way of scoring things so they have different numbers and this isn't just a waste of time. But the charts should be pretty similar since they are reflecting the promo.
I would like to have one player be co-host and one non-player. It keeps things balanced. The player co-host should be an active player. You can post your nominations in thread, and on Thursday a poll will be created for the ultimate winner of the title. Same for the non player, except I'll decide who gets it instead of a poll.
Third change: Bonus Performances
They're hard to keep track of and don't do anything, so they're gone.
Fourth change: Point system
It's back in place (Paid promo sort of isn't though). PM me with either what you know you have, or that you don't know what you have. I'll look through to check and make sure or to get your total points figured out for you. If you don't PM me, you start off with 50.
Fifth change: Bid Promo
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays there will be a performance posted and you bid on it with your points. You'll have 24 hours to bid and the one who bids the most gets it. It will be a substantial boost to sales.
The bid promo will be posted Friday at 7:30 PM CST so that way no one puts any of them on their official promo list for the week.
Changes will take place on Saturday April 19th at Midnight. Co-hosts will be selected by then.
I think everyone's done with this game. Can we just end it since the only people who were ******** themselves over it ending aren't even playing anymore?
I was thinking about getting back in but like damn, I always gotta go to the bottom/too the second page just to get here
Part of me is torn about ending it because I really like the album + concept I came up with and wanna fulfill the era. But on the other side of things, it's dying and I don't have very much motivation for it. I think the setup of this game has gotten very tired and the seasons to come (because they are inevitable) REALLY need something to shake things up. And things have also gotten too complicated. No shade to Miles because you are a good host, but I mean, really, what is the point of having three charts that average into one? Like what purpose does that serve? And then the way we write articles for EVERYTHING. Like why write an article for a tour date when it could be used for something more important? I hate to say it because I'm sure it's gotten repetitive at this point, but CAL2 was just so.... simple. And I think that's part of why we reminisce about it so often. I really want this game to be great and have a full, fun-filled season.
