The fact that everyone will let this match overshadow other accomplishments of Serena is annoying. Even after she retires, everyone is going to focus on this loss

This is one of those cheesy moments they talk about, when you win, about passing the test/having a "champion's spirit". but she failed miserably

If she lost to Venus, or if Henin/Clijsters/etc were here, or maybe even possibly Kvitova or Azarenka, that's one thing. But being up a set then playing some of the worst tennis she's played all tournament to a relative journeywoman? She mentally couldn't handle it, and there's no way around that. Graf fans will forever have that argument to their advantage. I wonder if she will still try the "I have nothing to lose" schtick.

I wonder if there's a chart anywhere tracking slam finals viewership, cuz this one should be near the botttom.

To their advantage, at least this loss is in close proximity to the final, the media will still be covering "the upset of the century!!1" around the time of the women's final, so some people might be interested to tune in and see who this player is, and/or just have tennis on their mind. If Serena lost early, like to Mattek Sands, Venus didn't take her place in the final, and we still had Vinci-Pennetta, this would for sure be the lowest rated women's final of the 21st century. But it might be decent.
Tennis in general has been getting a lot more attention recently esp.on social media compared to a few years ago (largely because of Serena which is what I suspect had to do with the immense pressure

), so there's that too.
