For me, this is her sound.

"Her sound" is something subjective, I mean... half the fanbase still says that her sound is pop/rock, the other half says pop/r&b influenced, others like pure pop Demi...
She's just trying new sounds I don't think she's trying to find a BIG hit and then say well, this is my sound (in that case I'm sure she would be stuck in the GYHAB sound)

I get what they mean though.

Her sound is still developing. Britney didn't get her sound until In The Zone, her fourth album. Miley didn't get her sound until Bangerz, her fourth album. I think it's more to do with age and Demi is super young.

I think Confident is a step in the right direction though. DEMI was basic pop music, while this album follows up on what Unbroken started and further give Demi a unique sound. By her next album Demi will have a signature sound.

I think she knows her sound and everything thatsmydemi said is it. Her REAL problem is not knowing how to put it all together in a cohesive and unique way. Instead of developing a definitive, signature vibe throughout Confident (something even Selenas was able to do with Revival) Demetria delivered another collection of randomly thrown together generic pop songs that sound like material various other singers already released two years before.

It doesn't come across as her being experimental or a jack of all trades, it feels like an artist who doesn't know where they fit and records whatever sounds like a trend hopping radio hit. Powerhouse vocals can only set you apart so much. She's 5 albums deep and 23 years old, I agree with phresh she should have been past this stage by now

I agree with this...

Part of what I love about her is how versatile she is with her sounds. She can serve bangers like Neon Lights and CFTS and then make us cry with Father and Stone Cold... Whatever mood I'm in there's usually a Demi song that can go with it.

If she only did one sound it would get boring. Even so, I do think each of her albums had a general sound.

Don't forget and HWGA were obviously pop rock. Unbroken was pop with some R&B and urban vibes. Demi was pure pop, and Confident was kind of a mix of it all but it still works as one cohesive piece of work IMO, because the track list is very well ordered.

On topic: I hope Confident becomes a bigger hit for her in January, and then she needs to release a ballad or mid-tempo, to remind people of her versatility since the last non uptempo single she released was almost 5 years ago

Demi can pull off a number of different sounds because she has a big voice, it's a blessing because obviously it means she has more range when it comes to experimenting with different sounds.

she could always incorporate some r&b elements into a pop-rock album anyway.
