It had nothing to do with them sacrificing Beyonce for "Someone Like You," since "Countdown" was serviced to pop radio around the same time as "Someone Like You" and skipped over "Love on Top." They went with the song they thought was going to do better, but they were wrong.

I thought "Love On Top" was up for adds before "Countdown" though... But, you know... I thought LOT was the more obvious smash than "Countdown." And the fact is, LOT went top ten WITHOUT radio support, while "Countdown," well...

EDIT: Wikipedia (yeah, I know...) says that Countdown wasn't serviced to US Mainstream and Rhythmic Radio until October 4. And the video premiered on MTV on October 6.

I didn't know the exact date, but I do recall "Countdown" and "Someone Like You" charting at the same time. I also recall some of the Beyhive wondering why LOT was the choice for the VMA performance. But LOT does sound like something too "urban" for pop radio, but that doesn't mean Columbia shouldn't have tried it out on that format. It officially went to Urban AC last month.

"Love on Top" is #123 on iTunes. If it were being played at pop radio, it would be sitting in the top 30 right now.
