About Somebody That I Used to Know being a hit, it was a hit in most countries before Walk Off the Earth did the cover for it.
I think the main reason it's become such a hit is because it's really catchy, and the public, all over the world, are really getting tired and bored of electropop now. The music video is also very original and unique, so I imagine people were sharing it all over Facebook and stuff last year. Certainly in the UK, the main reason it has become a hit is probably because of radio playing the song so much, and because of the hype from other countries last year. So deserved though, it's a great song.
