Honestly? I feel like she knew a lot of that was trash. She doesn't even really acknowledge 20 YO or Discipline anymore (sans Feedback and the occasional X-rated Disciplines performance).
The thing is from everything we have heard, Janet and LA Reid had problems almost immediately. He told Andy Cohen that she was the most difficult person he had ever worked with and Jimmy said that they (the label) just wanted to give her a bunch of throwaway tracks intended for other people - that's why she didn't write on the album, LA said he already had songs for her (they were mostly trash).
I do blame Janet for some of it, she became way too passive, even if LA made it seem like she was fighting him everyday. She also didn't seem very eager to be that involved in the making of 20YO or Discipline - for some insane reason she let JD take the reigns (mess). Personally I did not care about their relationship but professionally he was so awful. He did not get Janet's music at all. He kept talking about wanting to bring the "ghetto" out if her and turn her into an R&B diva (and she was so in love she went right along with it)
