I think you have a large number of people who love the book and will be atleast willing to check out the trailer. I doubt they're automatically going to refuse to see it because it's Selena. Outside of anti -Selena stanbases, the general public either likes Selena or are neutral about her.

Enough to see a movie though? Her opening box office numbers should have been better if that were the case. one was targeted to small kids (based off a very popular book) and the other was with leighton meester targeted to teens so I don't know.:/

Ramona and beezus is a very old book though. Like from1955. Most kids probably didn't even read the book. And I remember when R&B came up there were A LOT of popular films targeted to tweens/teens out.. Let me google..

Inception (huge)
Salt
Toy story 3 (huge kids film)
Despicable me (huge kids film)
Twilight 2
The karate kid (huge with kids)

and then Monte Carlo just, imo, wasn't a good movie. Nothing special about it. It was targeted at teens and opened the same week as Transformers , And ended up competing with Cars 2, pirates of the caribbean, The hangover 2, Bridesmaids etc were all still playing.

Releasing a small non-special movie in summer like they did with RB and MC is just begging for it to flop. it doesn't say much about Selena's drawpower, in my opinion.



I am convinced that if 13RW has a ****ing awesome script, it will do well.

I'm still not convinced she can carry a movie on her own. . If they find a very good lead male, then I'll believe it can do well. If they cast Selena Gomez and a nobody And this book isn't like popular popular. With increasing popularity and cast that was added, it should have at least hit 10 mill.

I don't think ANYONE can carry a film with a bad script or silly plot. Like Leighton Meester didn't do well with MC but did great with the Roommate. I doubt that there are females actresses right now, that can pull huge numbers just by their name alone. Ryan Reynolds did great in that film with Sandra, but flopped with Green Lanthern. Sandra Bullock did great with The Blindside but had to flops that year. Sarah Jessica Parker does great with Sex and the city movies but flops with others. In the last year we've seen people like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston pull mediocre numbers with some films, and then opening huge with others. People aren't seeing films just because of the leads actresses anymore.

Like I love Selena and RB and MC both came to theater here but I'm not going and didnt go just because its a selena gomez movie. Neither was my taste.

It did 40,000,000 worldwide and 23 in the US.
RB did 26 million in the US.
Solid. Not great but no flops like Bandslam or New York Minute either..

MC ended up doing like 35 - 45 mill tho. R&B did 25 mill.

I think the 7,000,000 is die hard standard Selena opening. Like the movie could suck ass and it still do 7 million. I had doubts it was going to do well the moment I saw the trailer.

And they both passed their budget of 20 million which in movie world, it's a "success". Even if in my world it's a flop.

Monte Carlo did ok in the long run IMO.
