I've never really got the argument that RN is cohesive because it followed a particular theme or concept, it actually deviates from it after the first three songs. Jimmy said they purposely used the "Let's Dance" interlude where she says "Get the point, let's dance" to transition out of the society/social injustice stuff into other topics.
It goes Rhythm Nation, State of the World, The Knowledge and then transitions into dance tracks.
Anyway, I think the transition on RN worked but I think TVR is just as cohesive and doesn't have to take as sharp of a turn.
