Idk to me it makes sense. She lives alone and it is better to grieve with other people (even if 2/3rds of them are a mess). If she leaves, she'll be hounded by the press and have to confront the fact that she probably isn't invited to the funeral and her son won't speak to her. If she stays this sort of thing will die down and then maybe she can reach out to her family when the wound is less fresh.

They made the point that Angie is alone for most of the time; it's better to be amongst people sometimes, to grieve. Also, it's a safe haven from the press, who she doesn't want to communicate with. Aaaand it would seem like she was making a big deal if she left.
