To work with folks like Tricky & The-Dream she probably had to sign something promising to release the tracks that they produced. That's very common in the industry with super producers and hit-makers.

As for an acclaimed album...I can't see how that would be possible if half of this material that she has released is on it.

I was gonna say this. The contract for working with them probably guaranteed them her next 2 singles. Hence, SL and Company. Def business move from RCA. Probably why she was slated to release Player first as well (a similar deal w/ Max Martin's camp).

It's crazy that we've heard so many "Joyride" songs, but she still has songs with PartyNextDoor, Timbaland, Dev Hynes, Boi-1-da, another Metro Boomin track, illAngelo, another Dream/Tricky + more on the way.

Hopefully Player, PF & maybe Energy wind up as deluxe tracks to make way for alot of these newer songs.

Yeah pretty much the Radar situation. I hope after what has happened, they will focus less on 'big names' of producers and more on the music itself

I also hope those songs will be Deluxe/bonustracks, so the basis of the standard album are mainly fresh.

I hope (if) when this album comes out it doesn't have 18-24 tracks to compensate for the wait.

The best thing about Aquarius was it only having 13 tracks, makes such a good listen all the way though.

I'd rather a 'Pre-Joyride' mini with

01. Player
02. Party Favours
03. Super Love
04. All My Friends
05. Company
06. Ride of Your Love
07. Energy

and keep them all OFF the album tbh

Besides Tinashe's best songs have "hooks" that are mostly non-verbal production/beats (which is very on trend): see 2 On, Feels Like Vegas, Bet, etc. That's clearly what they were going for with PF and Company (but it didn't work)

I didn't think "Feels LIke Vegas" or "Bet" would have made great singles either....lol. Great songs, but not great singles. But I get what you mean.

"2 On" was really the only good single-worthy song from that album, and "AHOD" was a great follow-up only b/c it sounded similar to "2 On" vibe.

SN: "SL" acapella is so basic IMO. But like you said, we'll have to agree to disagree. But what we can agree on for sure is that the GP is not feeling it. So there's something to the theory.

2nd SN: I wonder how much of "2 On" being a success was actually b/c DJ Mustard and Schoolboy Q were hot at the time too. That could have also played factor. T didn't have any features or "hot producer of the moment" on her singles during this era (at least not that I'm aware of).

No one really cared for who was featured on or who produced 2 On (tho it did help). It was a bada$$ track at the right moment coming from a fresh face. I don't think another ''2 On'' would happen right now tho.

If The Weeknd made ''The Hills'' & ''Earned It'' happen then so ''Bet'' could've become a hit, IF it was in a movie OST or some other tight promo. It's a brilliant song and the GP would've appreciated it, especially cause it's different. Difference stands out or flops hard. U gotta be lucky or have the right management.

Two years later and people still underestimate the appeal of FLV. It was a beautiful Stargate track and a radio edit would've been doable.

That being said, I fed agree there were no obvious hits on Aquarius besides 2 On. I wonder why they wanted to extend the era rather than move on to a new project.

But "Feels Like Vegas" didn't have a hook though....she literally spoke "feels like vegas don't it?" throughout the section that would have been a hook...

But I guess it could have been a single.

I just think:

1) the whole "using the beat as the hook" method is not working, and
2) doing songs that sound like other already released songs doesn't work

And Pretend was a good idea? FLV would have been a better choice for downtempo second single, nobody wants an uneventful ballad from a new artist, with or without an A$AP Rocky feature. Also, there at least 5 Top 10s this year that have the instrumental hook thing... So.

And I would tend to agree that the waiting is hurting the situation, BUT she already underperformed with Aquarius and she had a hit single. Sooooo....you put 2 and 2 together here about what's going to happen w/ this album if it's released without a hit single.

It's just going to make her seem "cold" to the GP if this album underperforms too.

So it's a damned if she do, damned if she don't situation.

I would be more inclined to have her release singles until something catches, maybe do an EP, repackage/retitle the album...and release the album next year. I don't know if pushing the album out will necessarily help in the long run tbh.

HELL NO!

I was so underwhelmed when I heard that song.

But yeah FLV is better than Pretend....but I don't think it would have done wonders for her album sales either.

Unpopular opinion but I think Pretend was a worthy single. Many demographics would eat up anything ASAP is on and it's a likeable single. But as a follow up single after 2On no. Who knows how the era would have turned out if AHOD followed it up

There kinda wasn't a STRONG second single on Aquarius tbh. FLV and AHOD were obviously better choices than Pretend and most of the songs she's brought out for Joyride, but neither of them was a HIT!

Generally, I was underwhelmed by Aquarius actually. It's third in my Tinashe rank after Amethyst and Reverie, but then again I'm the same guy who's played Superlove 100+ times, so maybe I'm not the standard for exceptional taste?
