Wisconsin early voting stronger in Democratic counties:
About 1 in 3 absentee ballots cast in Wisconsin so far have come from the state's largest and most heavily Democratic counties, giving Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign a reason to be optimistic about its chances here, even as polls show a tight race with Republican Donald Trump.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, in a conference call with reporters on Thursday, singled out Dane and Milwaukee counties as places around the country where early voting turnout was strong.
Wisconsin voters do not register by party, so it's impossible to know whether more Republicans or Democrats are voting early. But high turnout in Madison and Milwaukee, the state's two largest and most Democratic cities, is essential for Clinton's campaign and that of Senate candidate Russ Feingold.
Numbers compiled by the state Elections Commission show that as of Friday, 70,740 absentee ballots have been returned statewide. Of those, 22,511 were from either Milwaukee or Dane counties, or about 31 percent of the total cast statewide. By comparison, in the heavily Republican suburban Milwaukee counties of Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington, only 6,420 early votes have been cast.
In-person absentee voting hasn't started yet in many Republican parts of the state. But even when counting only mailed-in absentee ballots, about twice as many have been returned in Milwaukee and Dane counties compared with Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties.

Trump doubling down against the Central Park Five should be the final wake up call to the few black voters still considering supporting him. There's absolutely no excuse for him to continue to demonize these men who have long been exonerated by a confession from the actual rapist in addition to DNA evidence corroborating his guilt.
The fixation Trump has with the fact the five exonerated men made an admission of guilt in 1989 reveals how ignorant he is to the coercion techniques of law enforcement especially in a crime-ridden NYC of the 1980's. He's woefully out of touch with people of color and has shown time and again that he lacks basic human respect for us. Aside from his obvious lack of qualifications and fitness for POTUS, I cannot fathom how a person of color could vote for this man based strictly on principle and self-respect alone.

My local, small-town newspaper endorsed Hillary today and the Facebook comments are seething For perspective, in the primaries, Drumpf got 10,632 votes (51%), while Hillary got 1,275 votes (61%).

This is why I question Trump's remaining black support. They excuse it always with "it's in the past" but **** man wake up and see what the rest of us see with 91% of us having an unfavorable view of Trump.

Hillary Clinton to return to Ohio amid optimism about early voting
Hillary Clinton will be returning again to Ohio after campaign stops this week in Toledo and Akron, her campaign announced Friday morning. She’ll hit Columbus just before the Tuesday voter registration deadline and the beginning of early voting in the state.
An Ohio poll released this week showed Clinton with a two-point lead over Trump.
High-profile surrogates have been blanketing the state and will continue to do so -- including her husband, Bill Clinton, who barnstormed across eastern Ohio on a bus tour this week, musician John Legend, who will perform at a concert on her behalf in Cincinnati Sunday, and President Obama who will rally in Cleveland a week from Friday.
There’s a big push from Clinton, who’s investing her own time heavily here, as well as the highest-level surrogates she has -- all for a state her campaign has said she does not need to win in order to beat Donald Trump in November. Still, denying Trump a victory here would be a huge advantage -- even if she doesn’t need it, no Republican has ever won the presidency without Ohio, a point that is frequently made.
Her campaign is feeling optimistic about turnout levels, despite some less than sunny media reports that suggested that canvassing efforts have been failing to arouse enthusiasm for her candidacy. But according to a Clinton campaign official, the opposite is true -- the campaign is expecting to see turnout that exceeds levels in both 2008 and 2012, according to the early voting indicators.
For instance in Florida, 2.72 million voters have requested mail ballots, compared to 1.86 million at this time in 2012, and Hispanic mail ballot requests are up 77 percent, compared to this time in 2012. Asian mail ballots are up 79 percent, compared to the same time period.
Recent polls have shown Trump leading Clinton in Iowa, but the Clinton campaign says that three times as many Democrats have at this point returned ballots than Republicans, and twice as many Democrats have voted early in person.
Virginia is seeing absentee voting that’s up 60 percent compared to the same period in 2012.

North Carolina lawsuits for more voting days/locations continue:
A new motion filed in a federal lawsuit says not opening a polling place in Rocky Mount to the full extent of the early voting period is an attempt by Republicans to suppress black votes.
The motion — filed as part of the ongoing case of NAACP v. McCrory — calls for Nash County to open early voting polls at Braswell Memorial Library seven days early on Oct. 20 instead of Oct 27.
Not opening the site as early as possible puts voting “out of reach for many (and a disproportionately large share) of Nash’s African-American voters,” according to the suit.
Nash County Elections Director John Kearney said he believes those involved were hoping for a decision by the end of the week, but he doesn’t think that will happen.
“The decision is between state officials and the courts,” Kearney said. “They'll let us know what they decide.”
The Nash County Agriculture Center, which houses the Nash County Board of Elections, will open for early voting Oct. 20. Three other satellite sites will open Oct. 27 at the Mt. Pleasant Community Building in Bailey; the Spring Hope Community Building and Braswell Memorial Library in Rocky Mount.

WASHINGTON — A super PAC supporting Donald Trump is making a small, five-figure radio and TV buy targeting Democratic-leaning minority voters by using President Obama’s words against Hillary Clinton.
The TV ad shows a clip of Obama from the 2008 Democratic primary, hitting Clinton on a range of issues. “What does President Obama really think of Hillary Clinton,” a narrator says in the ad before footage of Obama begins.
“I just have to remind people of the track record. This is the same person who has taken more money from lobbyists than any other candidate — Democratic or Republican. Taken more money from drug company lobbyists; spent a decade with her husband campaigning for NAFTA and now goes around saying how she was opposed to NAFTA — that’s some politics being played by Hillary Clinton.”
The radio ad takes several lines out of context: it opens by saying it’s a message from President Obama. It then plays the audio of Obama talking about “plantation politics” and describes voting a straight Democratic ticket to selling “our soul for a Christmas turkey.” The passage is from Obama’s audiobook “Dreams of My Father,” which he narrated. In the book, Obama is actually quoting Smitty, a barber, as saying those things.
The ad closes with a clip of Hillary Clinton of saying: “I believe in white supremacy.”
The clip is from a speech she gave on her opposition to the school voucher program. She was describing a hypothetical scenario in which a parent wants to send their child to the “School of the Church of the White Supremacists.”

Gary Johnson’s Gaffes Are Helping Hillary
Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson is fading in the polls, giving a boost to Hillary Clinton. Johnson has suffered through weeks of terrible headlines that have raised questions about his fitness to be commander-in-chief.
Most notably, the former New Mexico governor couldn’t name a foreign leader he respected in one television interview, and in another asked, “what is Aleppo?” in response to a question about the embattled Syrian city.
The backlash against Johnson comes after Democrats watched with alarm as polls between Clinton and Trump tightened in August and early September. The surveys showed Clinton failing to win over left-leaning independents and millennials, who have been flirting with Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
But in recent weeks, there has been a clear softening of support for Johnson that has coincided with Clinton opening up a healthy lead over Trump. Johnson once routinely pulled double-digit support in the national polls.
He took between 10 and 12 percent support in nine polls conducted in August. It has been a downward trend for Johnson ever since. He has not hit double-digits in the 16 national polls conducted since the first presidential debate on Sept. 25.
In that time, Clinton has nearly doubled her lead in the RCP average to 3.8 points over Trump, as Johnson has receded to an average of 7.4 percent support.

So while Florida's Governor doesn't want to extend the early voting registration deadline, SC does:
South Carolina has extended its voter registration deadline, due to closures and evacuations caused by Hurricane Matthew.
Government offices in 25 counties were closed ahead of the storm, according to greenvilleonline.com.
The registration deadline was originally set for Saturday.
Mailed voter registration applications will now be accepted as long as they are postmarked by Oct. 11.
Online, faxed and emailed applications can be submitted before midnight on Oct. 9.
The deadline for those who want to register in person is still Saturday.

Poll: Independents break for Clinton as national lead widens
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has opened up a 5-point lead over Republican Donald Trump nationally as independent voters have moved strongly into her corner, a new poll finds.
A Quinnipiac University survey released Friday found Clinton taking 45 percent support over Trump, at 40 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is at 6 percent in the poll, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein takes 3 percent.
In the same poll from mid-September, Clinton held only a 1-point lead over Trump in a four-way match-up.
Since the first presidential debate, self-described independents have abandoned Trump in favor of Clinton.
In the same survey from mid-September, Trump led 42 to 35 among independents, with Johnson taking 15 percent. Clinton leads 46 to 32 among independents in the latest poll, with Johnson’s support reduced to 10 percent. Johnson has seen a drop in poll numbers recently, as voters begin to question his fitness to be president.
In addition, Clinton’s lead among women, 53 to 33, is greater than Trump’s lead among men, 42 to 35.
And non-white voters break 63 to 18 for the Democrat, while white voters only support Trump by a 51 to 38 margin.
The Quinnipiac University survey of 1,064 likely voters was conducted between Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 and has a 3 percentage point margin of error.

Agreed. I can only imagine what kind of mental gymnastics a person of color would have to do in order to convince themselves that Trump is worthy of their vote.
I do hope Hillary seizes on the opportunity to bring up the Central Park Five on Sunday and maybe air commercials with the exonerated men after the debate. She missed an opportunity to bring it up during the last debate, but the story has resurfaced a bit this week. It would be a mistake if she doesn't at least touch on it in the debates.

Pence said Trump no longer supports a Muslim ban, so will the Breitbarters freak but still vote for him or just stay home?
Why isn't Mike Pence condemning Trump's past call for a Muslim ban? "Because it's not Donald Trump's position now"

Donald Trump's ideas are here to stay and with a less terrible candidate the Republicans could easily win. Hillary only needs to get money out of politics and college tuition (and debt) reduction to win the left-wing. If she wants a second term, she needs to increase old age security, lower taxes on the middle class by a bit and let more illegal immigrants become US citizens. Most of all she needs to not **** up anything.
She doesn't really need to do anything for the environment or for Wall Street. Those are two things nobody really notices in real life, so it depends almost totally on PR whether people on the left will approve and whether she will look trustworthy. She can't ratify TPP in the first term either, keep it for the second term.
