I'm not saying everyone has to be some amazing singer, but every group needs at least one good singer. Hyoyeon sounds good but only in certain songs, Yuri is ok but her voice is bland and Sooyoung also has quite weak vocals. Every group has a vocal to fall back on.
As for Jessica, her technique isn't the best, but there's no denying that she's one of the most distinctive vocals in the whole of SNSD, between her and Sunny they stand out the most.
People don't realize what Jessica's vocal adds to the group, search performances without her and it's a massive effect on the group. Whereas Yoona or Yuri (or both) not being there makes little difference.
I just went off on a tangent a bit cause I'm a vocal nut. Technically she's not very good but she's still one of their fundamental voices.
