No, it got played because it was an urban song. Polow Da Don is no Dr. Luke, Guetta, RedOne, or Calvin Harris. "Love in this Club" was about as much "dance-pop" as Ciara's "Never Ever." And "Love in this Club" sounds nothing like the dance stuff Usher is doing nowadays.

To be honest, Love in this Club isn't THAT bad, I just kinda hate it because it further paved the way for this dance mess we're in now (although I think Justin Timberlake and Timbaland are mainly to blame).

Yeah, that's a common characteristic in 00's urban music (e.g. Live Your Life, Imma Be, currently Rack City).

And the success of Down On Me last just proved that the public can stil like urban music, when they actually ever hear some.

Love in this Club was very synth-heavy. It makes me wonder if songs like Party Rock Anthem and Give Me Everything would've been amongst the biggest hits of 2011, if synth songs like Love in this Club, Forever, Disturbia, Womanizer, Hot N Cold, etc. didn't smash in 2008. Or would've synth/electro have got popular regardless?

I wonder what current songs could be pushing new musical trends. I think Adele's success last year certainly is/will.

Yeah. To be honest, I think everybody here agrees on this, just we've all got mixed up with "dance-pop" and "synth-pop".

I should've said synth-pop from the start lol.

I can see WAY being one of those songs that takes AGES to take off in airplay, but when it does, it's MASSIVE and gets to #1 on the airplay chart with a massive lead.
