Hey Rangers. I hear some of you and other ATRLers say that Avril needs to ditch pop-rock and go for a more "electro" sound. Many say that Avril should dive into EDM, electropop, dance-pop, etc., because that's simply "what's in".
I tend to disagree.
Charli XCX and Icona Pop are essentially synthpop/electronica. There's nothing truly "rock" or "pop/rock" about their sound. Their music is largely synthesizer-based with computerized instruments/beats.
Plus, trendy music doesn't necessarily lead to successful results. Did YB do anything for Xtina? Is Heartbeat Song doing anything for Kelly atm?
I believe that Avril can still make hit music out of guitar-driven, "rock"-influenced pop without all the inorganic instrumentals. She just needs to hook up with the right producers and surround herself with the right team, in order to create something refreshing and hard-hitting.
I seriously don't think that pop/rock is all but irrelevant. Not when Ed Sheeran is currently slaying with "Thinking Out Loud".
