The Times They Are A-Changin'
Coldplay To Lend Original Song To Soundtrack Of 'The Hunger Games
Quote:
If there's one thing to be glad of it when it comes to the young adult movie revolution, it's the soundtracks. They may not still be on rotation, but given how awful they might have been, the OSTs for these movies have generally been bright spots; the "Twilight" soundtracks were invariably better than the movies, and the "Hunger Games," while spottier, was produced by T-Bone Burnett, and had credible names like Arcade Fire, Kid Cudi, The Decembrists, Glen Hansard and Neko Case alongside the teen-friendly likes of Taylor Swift.
With the second film in the franchise approaching, it was only a matter of time before we learned who'd be lending some tunes to "Catching Fire," which hits in November, and a press release has revealed that the lead single from the soundtrack will come from one of the biggest bands in the world, in the shape of Coldplay. At least it wasn't Mumford & Sons, right?
The track, entitled "Atlas," is the first time that the band have lent an original song to a movie, and will hit digital retailers on August 26th, almost three months in advance of the movie. Director Francis Lawrence comments "I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film. Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can't wait to share this music with audiences around the world." You'll be able to hear the track in a few weeks, and the rest of the soundtrack should be unveiled nearer the release of "The Hunger Games; Catching Fire," which hits on November 22nd, 2013.
