I think Born This Way could have been an amazing Era single-wise, I just don't know why she chose those singles at that time. IMO this would have been perfect.

6.) Heavy Metal Lover - May

It's not like artists wake up one morning and say "Oh, let's play a game: let's see how many real fans I have!".
The album may have more personal themes but she and her label still had faith in a possible commercial success.
I just realised TF/M is probably gonna hit 20M one day. It stands at almost 17M now, and still having amazing catalog sales. By that time BTW will have hit at least 7M, which makes it even better.
