FAITH CALLS INTO POWER 105.1 FM AND PREMIERES "STREET FEAT. NICKI MINAJ"
DJ: And it's about that time ladies and gentleman, a fresh new artist all the way from South Korea where she's better known as CL from girl group 2NE1 is here to talk with us about her upcoming solo English Rap album and to premiere her new single STREET featuring the one and only Queen of Rap, Nicki Minaj. Please welcome, Faith Lee!
FAITH: Hello!
DJ: Hello Ms. Lee how are you?
FAITH: I'm great
DJ: Nice and I'm sure you're very excited to debut your first solo single under your new moniker Faith Lee
FAITH: Yes I'm just- *stutters and pauses* God, it's just such an honour to even be doing this right now *laughs nervously*
DJ: Yes well it's an honour for Power 105.1 FM to have such a fresh artist with lots of hype on the show
FAITH: Thank you so much
DJ: It's OK. Now tell us why you decided to change your name from CL, which stands for Chaerin Lee which is your Korean birthname, to Faith Lee which is your English name
FAITH: Well, when I was young me and my Dad moved around the world a lot bc he had a job which required him to work internationally and move to different countries, you know? So like, Chaerin means Faith in Korean so I used Faith Lee as my name when I lived in the States and when I lived in France. It probably sounds really weird *laughs* but that's the life I lived. And I decided to change my name because this is a new chapter in my career. Since 2NE1 ended I've moved to New York to record my solo album and through all this I've kept my Faith. You know, I had no record deal and there was hype around me that I kind've lost through the long process of making this album and I got a bad reaction from some of my Korean fans when I moved to the States to do my solo career and when 2NE1 split I felt like it was my fault because I left to do other things. Sorry, I don't want to ramble on but basically, I was very depressed and CL became a person that I felt betrayed her fans and people. I kinda got rid of the name to mask what I'd done. But I'm so glad that my fans have stayed with me through the rough and I'm really excited to release this record.
DJ: Interesting, so you've worked with Pharrell Williams on your new album. How did that come about?
CL: Well I met Pharrell at Fashion Week and the songs I worked with Pharrell on are the songs I most recently recorded for the album. I was so shocked when he knew who I was and he knew 2NE1 and he offered to work with me. To this day I'm just so shocked that I worked with Pharrell but, yeah I did *laughs* and they are amazing songs. I love him and his work and - wow. *sighs* He's great.
DJ: That's awesome. And what other producers have you worked with?
FAITH: Well I can't tell you all of them *laughs* I wanna keep it a surprise for my fans, but umm... Well I worked a little with Teddy Park, 2NE1's producer a little and, I worked with Major Lazer and one great song! But that's it I've said too much!
DJ: *laughs* Okay. Anyway let's talk about the new single STREET featuring Nicki Minaj. What was it like to have worked with one of the most iconic ladies in female rap?
FAITH: It was a huge honour! I met her last year when I was with Jeremy Scott at his apartment in Beverley Hills and she came over with her entourage to talk about a costume Jeremy was designing for her and we got talking and hit it off and we just got in the studio a few days later in NYC and yeah, we made STREET. And I'm so blessed to have worked with all these people on this album it's just such an honour. The music video is gonna be premiered tomorrow night on 106&PARK and me and Nicki will perform so don't miss it guys!
DJ: Nice! And here it is hitting iTunes this Tuesday the long-awaited first single from Faith Lee's self-titled album this is STREET featuring the one and only Nicki Minaj!!
