Hard Grammy just gets dragged through the dirt so much! I'm willing to admit that it's not Vadge's BEST album, but it is nonetheless my favourite because it's timing in her discography, and of course because I think all the songs are such uptempo, groovy bops! Maybe she wasn't the trend-setter for the album's sound, but she did it better than the rest and made it her own in a massive way.
It's sad when her own fans are too ageist to accept that she can do what she wants, and make whatever music she wants, wherever and however she wants, and to think that she shouldn't be doing something or working with people "just because it's already been done" somewhat defeats the purpose of even bothering to make music. At the heart, it's fun, it's sexy, you can dance to it - it's not
meant to be a serious album.
Clearly this album was made during a time when Madonna was after some escapism, clearly her relationship must've been under some strain and clearly she just wanted to lose herself in the music that she was loving at the time and wanted to make something similar. Anyway, I could go on and on but just take it for what it is. I know in stan world we get lost always looking at charts, sales, and the album in the bigger picture.
However on its on, had this album been put out by anyone else, it would have been such a "Wow who's this new artist! Check it out!" moment. I guess the main reason
Hard Candy gets hate is because it followed the universally acclaimed
Confessions on a Dance Floor. The queen of reinvention knew she had to do some totally different, and she did, and I love it.
