What I find weirder is that in 2004 on Self Titled there was not a single One of The Boys song (excluding a bonus track), but from 2006 onwards all she performed was One of The Boys tracks with a few Self Titled tracks thrown in. Like, was she suddenly struck with brilliant inspiration in 2005 or did someone die and entrust her with the only copy of a flawless album?

Well, I suppose we only know for sure like 6 or 7 self Titled tracks so half the album is still up for debate (I've not seen a source for that tracklist), but lbr, every song on OOTB destroys almost every song on KP. You'd think one of them would've made the advert.

It really is the biggest snub from the album. No other song could have contended for 5th single other than that. It'd have gone Top 10 for sure.

At least Hummingbird Heartbeat received single treatment in Australia, even though it flopped because it was released two years too late.

Well obviously Fingerprints is old considering that was what the album was originally called

WUIV was written in Jan. 2005. More than a half of OOTB was from the Fringerprints album, that was supposed to come out in 2006

Ugh I generally don't like OOTB that much outside of IKAG. I don't get the fascination. I didn't seriously stan for her until California Gurls.

Oh god, you're asking for about a decade worth of receipts spread all over the internet there.

Her original A&R guy at Capitol claims that he played Waking Up In Vegas for the Capitol executives, they loved it, signed her, took 3/4s of her 2007 album 'Fingerprints', added the Dr Luke tracks (and the title track, I believe) and created what we have now. I'll have a quick look for the interview, but if the clock hits 1am I'm going to bed.

Though he has been known to exaggerate (he claimed she only wrote 12 songs for Teenage Dream and that's what made the album, when we know of at least 16 tracks), so take what he says with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, I know I read somewhere that the only songs she RECORDED for TD were the 12 songs on the album + Dressin Up, Milk Milk Lemonade, and Part of Me. She wrote more though

Meh, it took literally one Google search (Katy Perry A&R interview) so don't think I went to great lengths to find it. But since I have it;

She sent me a couple cuts by Katy which included "Waking Up In Vegas." I also saw a video of Katy which was great.

Half of her first album contained songs that were recorded from her previous deal at Columbia, including "Waking Up In Vegas". Then we A&R'd the remainder of the album. Around this time, Katy wrote "I Kissed A Girl" which became her breakthrough hit.

The Teenage Dream album was completed in just four months. We went to Las Vegas to work with Tricky Stewart. Then Katy went to New York to work with Stargate, and they created "Firework". She recorded (only) 14 songs for the album; there wasn't any extra songs or fluff. Katy only wrote songs that she knew would make the record--she was very focused.

... Unless Work It and Milk Milk Lemonade were never intended for the album, of course.

Working with Katy, I learned to trust the artist. Sometimes it's good to get out of the way. Katy was the architect--I just got the people into the room with her. It was amazing to work with Katy--we had 10 #1 records.

10 #1s by 2011 confirmed. Add Roar, Dark Horse and Part of Me and she has 13 now.
