I'm so heartbroken over this video/era. It's a damn mess. And the last scene, which I hoped would be my favorite, was a TTS zoom in. **** SM to the pits.
Let me go stan for Sunny's goddess adlibs at the end of Europa.
The Underdogs (Mr Mr's producers) produced three songs for Ciara's canned album One Woman Army. One of which being the first single Sweat. It's release to iTunes was cancelled ONE DAY after it being serviced to radio and it only charted on the Bubbling Under R&B chart. So that's why I'm bringing out Ciara like a bad example. I don't get why SM would be so quick to work with these guys, as if they actually had the best song for the girls??? They've done some great stuff (Halo, Take You Down) but if that's the demo SM got, they shoulda kept it moving imo. Let's not act like SM can't be choosy who works with these girls... Yeah they've previously worked with Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, and Chris Brown, but I don't see any of them touching this with a 10ft pole. And since GG are basically on their level (well the first two) in Asia, why are they getting these songs? Because we should be impressed they're working with Americans?
A flop song doesn't mean it's a bad song
For Ciara it's an inevitable flop, it's not like she has much power

Honestly I can't even remember what the mini sounds like to argue against that, but if you say so! Going retro isn't bad, I just don't like it done to seek trends without purpose. It reeks of "quick lil singles". Like an artist who never done EDM, but now EDM is popular and their new album is 100% EDM. It's basic
Even taking out the Japanese versions of Hoot, etc, it's more solid than most of their releases. And I praise some of the other output too. Flower Power, Gossip Girls, IGAB (at times), The Boys... I don't wanna come across as a hater here, but I can't sit back and praise this release like it's worth something special. It's really basic. It's not GG. And I think time will prove that mostly.
Nah, I'm only kidding, but I wouldn't be shocked at the same time
Ah okay, I know what you mean now. I agree mostly, riding trends is such a gimmick, and when it's done well it obviously overrides that. I wouldn't say SNSD nailed it but I think they get some credit since they have a tendency to use different themes and styles each era, so it was bound to happen eventually.
Hopefully no one sees you as a hater, because it's obvious you aren't, I just think the standards of most people are a little too high. I mean, why does it have to be all or nothing with Soshi? Where's the middle ground people? Because it's here, in singles like Mr.Mr.
Only thing that can save this era are the live performances.
*crosses fingers*

Oh mess, you had me stalled for a moment.
I don't get this comeback at all sadly...
I wouldn't mind if this was their repackage single, but this being their first Korean song in 14 months? After the lacklustre japanese releases last year? It's not shocking people (myself inclusive) are disappointed.
I guess high expectations come with the package. If you wanna scream they're #1 in Asia, Global Generation, #1 on Forbes, #1 on the charts, then you gotta have that #1 material to back it up too. And you betta not play the victim card when it doesn't go that way. You better be able to cash those cheques your mouth is writing!
Sorry! LOL! Imagine the meltdowns tho

Well considering her actual first single Body Party that The Underdogs didn't touch was the biggest hit of her career in almost a decade... that says otherwise tbh
And you're right! A flop song doesn't mean it's a bad song, but I'm not here for GG to be working with these guys unless they have another Listen for them. Which this is surely nawt
So are you saying they're not worthy of high expectations?
I think they are, but the way everyone's been acting about their releases post-2011 you would think everyone in this thread had already lost hope in them, so why are the expectations so high if "they haven't released anything good since The Boys"?
Mr Mr is by no means bad, but the video and the song aren't even as good as The Boys.
There is obviously a noticeable decline in quality with their title tracks.
I actually love the song more after the mv. Probably because it was a TTJ video
I totally agree with RGP, they should at least try to work with korean producers. The american producers are obviously not going to give their BEST material to them.
And if they want to be different from other companies(not working with bravebros, ds, etc) why not try an hunt some indie producers or not so famous producers and make them sm exclusive.
