The lowdown: If “Donatella” and its world of excess represent the worst of the fashion industry, then “Fashion!” is the antidote, a reminder of why we love clothes and all they represent. (Slay!) Over some David Bowie funk, Gaga finds euphoric escapism in the simple pleasures of “looking good and feeling fine.” (Slay! Slay!) And with a chorus ready-made for the ATRL demographic, it’s a wonder this ARTPOP highlight didn’t do better on the countdown.
ATRL says...: "One of the best songs that either Gaga or will.i.am have ever done," J. YONCÉ wrote. "Blatantly ripping off multiple Daft Punk sounds (catch the RAM funky bass and the 'Aerodynamic' synth in the breakdown) was a good choice!" Edge of Glory thought the "gliding pianos and a deep funky bassline" sounded like "a modernized 'Holiday.'" He added that it was one of Gaga's "most fun and care-free tracks since her debut 6 years ago." Doogle admitted, "I think I just like all the really gay songs on ARTPOP, but this is really cute."
Best bit: The entire thing is so perfect it redeems will.i.am's very existence.
