Pence will be so tainted by his association with Donald that he will never lead a presidential ticket.
538 posted a good politics chat talking about how Republicans will feel about Trump after he loses. If he goes down as a hero and a martyr of the anti-establishment, and Republicans are still insane, maybe Pence would have a good chance in 2020 by association Alternatively Trump might become hated by the GOP for losing the election, in which case they'll forget he ever happened and pick someone like Rubio. It will be interesting to see
Begala and the Dems wanted Pence to waste time defending Trump b/c that's what they wanted the debate to be about. Never do what your opponent wants you yo do. Pence played it smart by sticking to the issues. Trumps comments have been debated in the media ad nauseam. No point in debating it there.
