What pop star Kelly Clarkson idolizes
The busy superstar singer gives us a glimpse of what she loves.
The lazy days of summer aren’t so lazy if you’re Kelly Clarkson. The original American Idol winner spent her summer as a mentor on ABC’s reality singing competition, Duets, and performing on the road. In between, Clarkson, 30, who holds the Idol record for most album sales worldwide, answered our call for a few of her favorite things via e-mail. Her tops:
Duet: Clarkson was blunt and specific with advice to the wannabe singing stars on Duets. What she thinks really works: Poison & Wine sung by The Civil Wars.
Guilty listening: Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen.
Twitter fave: Ellen DeGeneres — “she’s hilarious.”
Online shopping: “Anthropologie! I’m addicted to their furniture, accessories & clothes! Basically everything they sell.”
American Idol: Clarkson, the show’s first winner in 2002, picks Season 2’s Ruben Studdard. “He’s sweet & talented & we get along great!”
Song to cry with: Perfect by Alanis Morissette. “That message extends to a lot of people.”
Song for celebration: Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. “I love how he plays the guitar — it energizes me.”
TV show: Once Upon a Time [ABC]
How to chill: “Wrap up in a blanket and watch a movie sometimes just checking out is the best way to relax.”
Snack: “Fruit — blueberries & melon. It's always accessible.” Her up-and-down weight is much-discussed; she recently lost 30 pounds.
Workout: “Hiking!”
Day-off activity: “At the dog park with my dogs.”
Day-off company: “Friends! Cause I’m always working and I rarely get to hang out with them!”
Date: “Turkey hunting on my birthday! I didn’t get a bird but just enjoyed walking around the woods.” The Texan is dating Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager in Nashville and Reba McEntire’s stepson.
Time of day: “Early — 6 a.m. — ’cause everything is peaceful & my phone hasn’t started ringing yet!”
Vacation spot: Whistler, Canada. “I love snow boarding & it's beautiful there.” She was born in Forth Worth, grew up in Burleson, Texas.
