I don't know how Rihanna can sound great on several performances showing that she improved over the years but then occasionally she goes back sounding liker her "Hero" days again reminding us all how terrible she can still be.

Well it was pretty clear that Rihanna was focusing on demonstrating phrasing of the final riff in which she emphasised the break. Everything leading up to that was irrelevant. She wasn't even trying.
