It kind of makes me cringe when people use the "sales are declining" excuse to justify their fave's low sales.
I could use Adele as my example but I'll get dragged so I'll use someone else.
Justin Bieber is still selling well despite being the same ungrateful twat he's always been.
Taylor Swift sold 5 million copies of her newest album and managed to still sell 4-5 million copies of her first two singles all in the US alone.
Bruno Mars's only single this year "Uptown Funk" sold over 6 million copies in the US alone.
Sales are definitely on the decline, but it's not impossible to still have great sales. The artist just has to establish themselves as one whose music is actually worth buying. The labels can't just fool the GP into buying the albums like they did in the 90s because music is 1000x more accessible. However, it's not like the population of the world deteriorated. It just takes a lot more than it did 10 years ago to get people to buy music.
Releasing a sh*tty album like "Confident" or a crap, rehashed single a la "Focus" is not transparent enough to get the GP to spend their cash, rightfully so.

Adele's music is a try hard generic mess with horrible lyrics.
Bieber is talentless and his music is a pain to ears.
Uptown funk is a disguisting song.
1989 is overproduced and sounds like 100 other albums already released.
So your argument makes no sense, sorry.
