Featuring a more pop side of Carrie, I think its a nice departure from country. I also love how Carrie attempted to dance on the video. She's really pretty.
A very beautiful duet by Jason and Colbie. Though I dont really like Colbie as an individual artist, I liked her in this song coz she and Jason were able to create a wonderful love song in this one.
I was disappointed with how Hoobastank's new record was ignored last year, coz I think theyve grown a lot as a group without taking away their ability to produce heart-striking power ballads. This song is really underrated, it shouldve gone huge on Alternative or HAC and even reached Top 50 on CHR.
.Another underrated track, this very relaxing song is the "Collide" (Howie Day) of 2009.
Probably the biggest track of the year in terms of radio and TV music airplay and charts here in the Philippines. 2009 was indeed a huge year for her and she started the Fearless domination with this song. It is near impossible for an avid radio and music TV listener/watcher not to know or even memorize this song for the amount of success it has reached for the past 365 days, especially in the earlier stages of the year.
Good collaboration. But it grew old on me quite fast. Listening to it bores me at times.
Second time around for Britney, this time with a controversial song title that filled up music blogs, forums, and even TV and radio.
Mariah started off a weak era with this track, still has the popular catchy Mariah sound, but for some reason it didnt smash that hard. The video is pretty cool though.
First entry for this band in the Top 100, their current single which is one of my current jams as well. They have another song which is roaming around the Top 50 zone.
And finally, one spot shy of the pivotal top fifty is Green Day's title track for their latest album "21st Century Breakdown." This is actuallly the first song I heard from the entire album when the demo was leaked in 2008, and I loved it. It has a great music video concept as well.
Album must have a single released in 2009.
Albums #10-#2
Rocking harder than ever at the top spot is Hayley Williams and the rest of Paramore with their 2009 offering "Brand New Eyes." It has 12 tracks, opening up with "Careful" and "Ignorance," two aggressive tracks that most probably bridge the gap between "Riot!" and their new sound. Following is track #3 "Playing God," which in my opinion is one of the strongest tracks on the album both lyrically and rhythmically. It is clearly a message for the doubting fans and listeners. It has one of my most favorite lines "You dont deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you." Hayley sings this with the perfect amount of emotion. Continuing the string of their angrier sound is "Brick By Boring Brick," their current single. And then comes what I believe is the best song from the album "Turn It Off," the song with the most religious metaphors --- where Hayley tests her own faith, and believes to find true hope in desperate times: "In the freefall I will realize Im better off when Im at the bottom..."
The album has a lot of midtempo rock tracks but it also features three slower and more intimate tracks, two of which are the acoustic and folk sounding "The Only Exception" and "Misguided Ghosts" and one where Hayley shows her vocal abilities "All I Wanted." Towards the middle of the second half of the album, the band returns to the upbeat songs in "Where The Lines Overlap" and "Feeling Sorry," and "Looking Up," three beautifully crafted anthems with the latter relating to us the band's feeling that what theyre doing is "(its) not a dream anymore, its worth fighting for..." and "were just getting started..." a clear statement for the rumor-makers that they arent parting ways any moment from now and that they are here to stay.
