My thoughts on Girls' 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost':
This album has a real classic sound to it. It is so incredibly reflective of albums that were released by classic rock artists in the 1960s and 1970s, and I actually like it because of that. Girls have mentioned that they were influenced by these classic artists, and listening to any of the tracks on this album will show you that these influences are definitely real. However, they retain their own style on this album, in essence, it does not sound like a tribute band to that era of music, it has its own beautiful voice to it. The standout tracks are "Honey Bunny", "Alex", "My Ma", "Vomit", "Just a Song", "Love Like a River", and "Jamie Marie", I mean they all just sound so damn good. I would never have expected a song titled "Vomit" to become my favorite song on this record, and one of my favorites on this list, but damn is it incredible. The ending with that electric organ and those added vocals! Yes! Anyway, this record was very strong for the most part, and I really enjoyed its classic sound. It is definitely a must listen, and deserves its spot on this list. It really is a shame that this band is finished, because it would have been interesting to see where they would have gone after a great record like this.

My thoughts on Killer Mike's 'R.A.P. Music':
I can confidently say that this is one of the best hip hop records on this list. This album is full on "bangers", but these songs are not just filled with ignorant and meaningless lyrics. Killer Mike has a voice, and what he is saying is important to him. He is not just a rapper who will spout off random nonsense that has no real meaning, which is why I really enjoyed this album. "Big Beast", "Untitled", "Go!", "Southern Fried", "Reagan", "Butane", "Willie Burke Sherwood", and "R.A.P. Music" were the standouts on this record, with "Reagan" possibly being my favorite. The way he puts Reagan on blast! Damn! Honestly, this was an incredibly enjoyable hip hop record, and after listening to it, I can see (unlike some of the other hip hop albums on this list) that it really does deserve its place here. It is rap that has great lyrics, a great sound, and a great style to it. It's great in general and definitely worth listening to.

My thoughts on Big Boi's 'Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty':
Another strong hip hop release! I think I may have liked Killer Mike's record slightly better, but Big Boi really has a great flow on these tracks, and the musical direction is superb. The only noticeable issue I have with this record are the sheer amount of featured artists on this record. I mean, Big Boi probably should have toned it down a bit in this respect. He can hold his own on any track, and some of the features seem fruitless and unnecessary. "Daddy Fat Sax", "Follow Us", "Turns Me On", "General Patton", "Hustle Blood", "Be Still", "Shine Blockas", "The Train Pt. 2", and "Back Up Plan" are the standouts. Overall, I feel that the features that work, work really well, while the few tracks that do not, are ones that probably should be skipped. Ultimately however, this record is incredibly strong and deserves its place.

You listened to some great hip-hop records. I love the Big Boy album, but that Killer Mike one I love so much more. It's political without being try-hard, it realizes that it's about fun and the beat first. It's just a great record. Probably my most played of 2012.
Great write-ups! I wasn't really a fan of the Girls album, but I'm going to listen eventually again.
Just curious, which of the Big Boi features did you not like?

Yeah, I really liked them a lot better than the hip hop records that I listened to earlier. Haha. Yeah, I really thought that Killer Mike had a good balance between being "preachy" and still having good music.
I like the Girls record because it sounds just like a classic rock release from the 60s/70s. Love that sound.
I was not really a fan of B.o.B, Cutty, and Yelawolf on the album honestly.

Killer Mike knows what's up, and not be yelping like a cartoon character in your ear about nonsense no one cares about
will listen to Girls eventually, I'm 10% in, no stopping now. Honestly, as many times as I have heard Sir Luscious... I cannot remember what B.o.B or Cutty have to offer. I love Yelawolf though. He sounds like he has a hard time rapping on You Ain't No DJ, but I like what he adds. Also, listening to Reflektor, don't know why I hated it so much last year.

Right? They were pretty forgettable. Haha. Reflektor is probably Arcade Fire's weakest, but it's still pretty great. Enjoy!

Haha, nice review.
I'm slowing down on these albums now. I am listening to other recently acclaimed stuff that is not on this list now (which was the point of listening to the list in the first place), but I still feel like I have to finish it. I'll post my reviews on the albums I have listened to not on this list after I am finished I guess.

I was going to plan some elaborate double album style review that ended up not really going anywhere to be meta, but lost my internet connection while I was working on it.
And well you reviewed it perfectly already I worked it out.
Anything good and critically acclaimed you've listened to then? Like some Ariana Grande?

Sinkane - 'Mean Love' (R&B/POP) [79 on Meta] has a few solid tracks
The Hotelier - 'Home, Like NoPlace is There' (INDIE ROCK) [91 on Meta] pretty strong album, love the intro track
I have never listened to one Ariana Grande song, and really have no interest, but I guess I will give that song a spin.

My thoughts on Kendrick Lamar's 'Section.80':
Ok, so I am certain that 'Good Kid' is better than this album overall, but 'Section.80' also is worth listening to, some of the standout tracks on here are equal to the ones on his second album. Some of these songs seem to be those type of tracks that you will become addicted to. "**** Your Ethnicity" is definitely one of those tracks, it just has that great hook to it, and I simply love the intro. "A.D.H.D" is another one that really has a great flow to it, and I can see it becoming an addictive track for me. "No Make-Up" seems like it could be one of those tracks as well. I mean this album really has some amazing standout tracks, but it also has some mediocre content, unlike his second album. Overall though, this is an incredibly strong album, and I listened to it just in time considering that Kendrick is about to release a new single!

Reflektor is amazing and Oh Orpheus is one of their best songs.

I love Neon Bible. Reflektor was groovy and had a cool sound but I just didn't find much to connect with. I thought some of it was pretty cool and other parts were just a little too pretentious. I really want to like the album too

I went to add those to my iTunes wishlist and already had Sinkane on it haha. I think I added it because the guy was signed to DFA and I pretty much everything that comes off that label. But I did just add the other one to check out.

I find it's easiest to just embrace it as a really fun and kinda poppy album. Multiple listens revealed the amazing lyrics and meaning of the songs to me.
Neon Bible is just too overblown imo (No cars go tho>>>>>>>> )

I love the whole dark vibe of Neon Bible and how it's overblown and dramatic. I haven't listened to the album in awhile, but I always thought it was a comment on religion being kind of overblown and overdramatic.
Kanye West/Jay Z - Watch The Throne #43
I'm almost done with my listening list, so I should be knocking more of these out soon. I started listening to this and just got pulled into it because of how good it is. Really, this album is way better than it has any right to be. You already have two of the biggest rappers of all time working together, the two really could have coasted when they put this together, but they did not. Instead they put together a political rap album that knocks. The closest album on this list is probably R.A.P. music and the two compare interestingly. R.A.P. takes the persepctive of an everyman; Kanye and Jay are not that, and they know that. Instead a lot of the album focuses on their wealth and status as African-Americans and the mixed bag that is. As with most things Kanye does, the use of samples is brillant: the majority of the tracks are built off of samples from the most influential musicians of all-time (Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Nina Simone) but it's not a blasphemous use of samples, the classic artists build the foundation for the beats of these tracks literally allowing the album to take place and each one of the features is a highlight of the album.
Here the, bragging on tracks like "****** In Paris," completely works next to the more contemplative tracks because there is an ongoing theme of Kanye and Jay's current lifestyle and the work of everyone that made it possible. Occasionally the album doesn't work, but the album is always lyrically or musically interesting; even Bon Iver's appearance on "That's My Bitch" works as a poor man's substitute for Charlie Wilson. A great album.

My progress has officially halted on this list! I am so close, but I have been really busy with school, work, and I am just listening to other acclaimed music releases that are not on this list now.
I will just post reviews on whatever acclaimed music I listen to from this decade, and work on the list simultaneously.
