Why does Gangsta Boo need to be a part of Three 6 Mafia when she's cool with OutKast? We're a little mad about this one, the aforementioned lady of rage totally thrashes Masada for the title of Top 2 Verses by a Female on a Mainstream Dungeon Family Record and our favorite duo (mostly Andre tbh)'s overtly Prince~ly tendencies are just enough to make me squeal. That popping beat, like sumthin simmering in a cauldron, on top of the guys ceasing to be assholes and getting their gentlemen on >>>>>>... not to even mention its swift transition into the greatest song of all time.
Top 40, wut wut.
Choice lyrical nugget: "Whatcha mean dog, telling a playa like Boo to call before I come / You a game I'm ****ing on you for fun / Join the bandwagon ***** it's a Gangsta Boo party / Everybody wanna join, come and freak wit somebody / Riding Jaguars, riding Prowlers all sports cars / Hitting strip bars wit the top down, **** y'all / GROUPIE -- you need to be glad you even KNEW ME / DO ME, and tell all my friends you truly BLEW ME / BITCHH"
track #6 off of Big Boi and Dre Present... OutKast {2001}
@ their post-Stankonia output. I gotta tell you, I am not the biggest proponent of this song, but those TENS. "The Whole World" served as the lead single to their greatest hits album, straight off what was up to that point the peak of their career, but before they went on to become together-but-separated world-conquering superstars with the help of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. It was a solid "So Fresh, So Clean"-esque hit at the time of release so obvs it connected with enough people, but really am just confused. What is that chorus even about? Rap Genius tells me racism, and the way the way outside society likes to look at black people as thugs walking around getting chased by cops, but then big ups to Killer Mike talkin about "my focus is crime." Anyway doesn't matter, why doe does the song take so long from the start to get on its feet? What about those chicken voice noises in the chorus? That chorus itself is kinda SHAKY. Anyway, nice bridge between the G.O.A.T. of Stankonia and the heaping teaspoon of meh that was their next 2 projects.
Choice lyrical nugget: "Now if his momma is a quarter daughter must be a dime / I gotta meet her, don't take no shorts I don't use abbrevi- / -ation, I don't even play the radio neither / Only if I need to know the sports or the weather / I'm a cool type of brother but yep, your head I'll sever / From the neck - see ain't nothing changed, hit the stage / Set a date sucker, in battle we can engage / I'll slice you, wife you, marry you, divorce you / Throw the Porsche at you, is what I'm forced to do"
The first of 38 songs in this rate to average a score above 8.0, here we have a classic early joint in which Big and Dre on their Rick Ross **** assert that everything you hear them lay on wax is LEGIT and true to form. The beat is a slightly more lively take on Organized Noize's early formula, while that chorus of "I wonder how you would be actin'..." is kind of like pop perfection run thru a smoke filter.
Choice lyrical nugget: "Oh heavenly Father, why do you even bother watching over me / Growing up a little G, my mama thought I'd grow to be / A lawyer or a doctor but I felt like coming harder / Packed a shank up in my socks when I started kindergarten / This ain't no secret garden, so you flower ****** flee"

Some hardcore ghetto rap songs can double as pop perfection while others can't. "Gangsta ****" is all bars, and definitely falls into the latter camp though is no less strong for it. This is almost one of those songs I wouldn't expect Andre to make an appearance on, but brother comes through with clarity and some classic one liners on top. Not every Goodie Mob verse here is a 10/10, but who even cares when we're having this much fun?
The way they chant "Do ya really wanna know about sum gangsta ****?" and then without even waiting for a response just TELL you >>>
The dude towards the end of the Calhoun verse who I used to think was Sean Paul >>>
And then the spelling in this song too is like off the wall crazy.
Choice lyrical nugget: "Outkast wit a K, yeah them ****** are hard / Harder than a ***** trying to impress God / We'll pull your whole deck, **** pulling your card / And still take my guitar and take a walk in the park / And play the sweetest melody the street ever heard / Now bitches sucking on my nouns and I'm eating their verbs / Get full, and ******, ****** / Pop, pop, lock, lock to the, to the beat, beat / As if pitbulls went out of style"
