Well, not really. Machete did pretty well for a small, low budget film. That's probably why it got a sequel and a bigger budget. This is honestly shocking to me that it didn't make at least 10M. I mean, I don't really watch much television, but the only promo I've seen for the film has been avis on this site. Of course, Machete did have Lilo in it. This movie shouldn't have flopped quite like this. Rodriguez (the director) has a following (my faves from him are Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico), and where was the Modern Family fandom? Shouldn't more of them have turned out to see Sofia?

Yep. They basically used her cameo to promote the film. The Vanity Fair cover she got that year was to promote the film so she was a huge reason why the first one was so successful.
