I'm glad Rih benefited from this but I'm not sure how I feel about the rule. Makes it too easy for major pop stars and viral sensations to go number one. Definitely diminishes the value of a chart-topper.

I agree that YouTube streaming should be included in the chart but it seems like it has too much power given this week's chart. Billboard is too eager to take power away from radio... see the editor's tweets.

What is the "value" of a chart-topped other than being the most popular on that chart?

But it seems like there's a new big viral hit pretty frequently now. Gangnam Style could've been #1 for MONTHS under this formula. Then not too long after it died down, we have Harlem Shake, which is clearly going to stay popular for awhile. After Harlem Shake, there will be something else. I just don't see how this is fair to anyone but stupid viral songs (a new one every few months) and big pop stars like 1D/Bieber/Katy/Gaga/Rihanna (in the weeks between big viral songs).

Seriously, Friday and Bed Intruder could've been "hits" under this formula Ridiculous

This is going to be REALLY unfair to people like P!nk and Kelly Clarkson, they've both been around for a long time and have been able to consistently put out hits, but don't happen to generate strong YouTube views. Think of how many #1s and top 10s they may miss out on due to this rule.

And when you think about it, 100 million isn't THAT many weekly views, not enough to give it a three and a half times advantage over a song that sold twice as much as it did and has infinitely times more radio support. Sure 100 million is a lot, but many of the top pop girls can easily generate 10 million views from a new music video in a week. Then think of ALL the YouTube videos people upload with new songs (official lyric videos, hundreds of user-made lyric videos, user-uploaded copies of the music video, parody videos) and then consider that you don't even need to play the whole song, most of Harlem Shuffle's views come from 30 second videos.

The rule will still provide for high chart peaks by major stars whenever the debut music videos.

Hell, I'm just happy my fave is safe from another MTN for a while.
