ATRL has this racial thing against R&B artists that they prefer you to be white and sing soul music while if you are black than you better be Pop. I never quite got that logic but it is what it is. I hope Monica can at least get 1 solo hit in the Top 10. I already know either The Boy Is Mine or an Aaliyah song will win. More than likely Aaliyah LOL

Interesting. I think you have a point there, but I don't know if it's really fair to chalk it up to racism. This is a
pop music forum, after all. It makes sense that voters would give higher scores to songs with big hooks and a more accessible sound—though that hasn't necessarily been the case so far (witness: the early eliminations of "Right Here (Departed)" and "All Eyez On Me").
And it's funny that you mention that about Monica being more of a true R&B artist than Aaliyah and Brandy. Listening to their catalogs, I felt the opposite. At least early in their careers, Monica was the first one to show an impulse toward a crossover sound, especially in her balladry. I don't see that in Aaliyah and Brandy's careers until much later on (when, conversely, Monica seemed to have settled into a more purely R&B sound).

With the exception of that cheesy mess "For You I Will," I'm so with you. Monica's later work got unfairly shafted!
