When Gaga sells 351,000 copies with one single, a disaster occuring the release of her week that cost billions in damage and put millions out of homes, and stops all promo there out of respect, THEN I will agree that Gaga is bigger than Avril, but for now I think Avril has trumped Gaga based on circumstances. Queen of Japan was supported by her people even though they had nowhere to live. That is dedication!

IKR, people fighting because of a 3,5 million seller and a 1,5 million seller. Utada's first album alone sold more than their discographies in Japan, together

Lewy, have you ever been to Japan? Clearly, you know nothing about the situation.
First of all, I find it distasteful that you're even making statements like "the queen selling while people have no place to live." But that's another issue.
Second, the earthquake is absolutely NO reason why the sales slumped. The regions affected by the quake were remote and only a very small percentage of Japan was seriously affected. Seriously. By day 2 or 3, things were normal in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and all of western Japan. The only region that might not have spent is the Tohoku area, which is more sparesly populated.

I think Avril is way better than Gaga, GL is a masterpieces and I don't care charts because they dont show reality of quality.
