Let's be honest, the only people from that list who'll be remembered as legends for defining and changing the industry, rather for good or bad are Britney Spears and Beyonce. People always are quick to denounce Britney because of how "untalented" or "unrespected" she supposedly is. Are we really going to question the impact this woman has had in Pop music and Pop Culture in general for the past 15 years across the globe? She has and still is making an impact in this industry.
No, Britney isn't anywhere close to what she was in her younger years. She experienced several public scandals that made headlines, but one can never forget all that she accomplished and continues to accomplish over the years because of that. People downplay Britney's talents all the time. You don't do Broadway in NY, compete in gymnastics meets, make it on a nationally televised program over thousands of auditioning kids, sign with a major record label, get accepted into a prestigious NYC performing arts academy, make commercials, dance, sing, win on Star Search, write music, compose music, play a musical instrument, made countless contributions to catapulting yourself into super stardom if you are a talentless puppet. Get real people! I'm not proclaiming her the best or most talented individual in the world or anything, but C'MON!
How we forget the impact that she has on talented musicians today in music who have stated how much they have been influenced by Britney or have grew up a fan of hers over the years. Ask Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and more how they have admired and been huge fans of hers in the past. GROUPS and LABELS were created because of Britney and Britney alone. Ask Christina, Jessica, Mandy, Willa, and any pop female that came out in the late 90's or early 00's what it was like to be called a "Britney clone" or the "Britney's?" Ask Avril, P!nk, Vanessa Carlton, MIchelle Branch, etc. what it felt like to be identified as "The Anti-Britney's?"
Britney is the SIXTH mutha-freaking best selling female artist worldwide, she's done something that not many other ladies can claim. Britney has visual images, performances, songs, and photo shoots that have transcended through time. She has accomplished so much over her career and continues to set records in the music industry, nearly 14 years after the fact. For a supposed record flopping (Femme Fatale), selling 10 million records worldwide is still impressive in my opinion. *shrugs*
Crack jokes about her breakdown all you want, but her lack of promoting material or the breakdown doesn't erase or override the full career package. Personal struggles making the headlines? Britney is not the first and won't be the last, Elvis, MJ, Madonna, Whitney, and several others have well documented struggles that made headlines everywhere. People act like Britney has never received critical acclaim before in her life on multiple occasions as well. Nobody wants to give her the due she deserves, yet here she is, still selling and still impacting the industry along with the new artists of today.

I think P!nk actually makes for a good discussion on where does she fall in to the scope of things. She has been consistent throughout her career, but the mass appeal and impact is missing to place her in that category.

The good thing is that Britney still has her space inside the pop industry.

It's evident who the real legends are already.
Beyonce and Brittney are punishing the list by miles!
It's not even a question.

Some will appreciate her...others won't...she is still a pop music ICON and LEGEND...

You may often see me fool around here but when Britney is being bashed, I'll be ready to defend her ass.
I just can't at people calling her untalented you know. Some people just see talent as dancing and singing at the top of their lungs while they disregard the whole album process.

Yeah I mean "dancing" is not everything ...
She has written some great tracks ("Everytime" as an example), she plays piano, all of her videos conecpts are created by her, she is the executive producer of the most of her tours, she has also produced and arranged tracks, she is the one who picks her singles and everything related to her career, etc.
Yeah, she is not a great vocalist and her dancing skills seems hurt, but of course she is talented.

Although Shakira's popularity is not as strong as the others went it comes to U.S. success, I still think Shakira has already made her mark as a music legend.
Let's not forget, Shakira has remained unchallenged in every Spanish speaking country (Latin America and Spain) for so many years. She had her first dose of skyrocketing popularity and success in 1996 and she has only solidified and expanded her standing since then. No other female Latin Pop artist even bothers competing with her.
Increased success in the U.S. would be very helpful, but she already is a legend.

Beyonce and Britney, by farrrrr. P!nk is third, and though all the others have had great success, NOBODY is going to be holding a "Christina Aguilera Tribute Concert" when she's 70.

Beyonce. She has consistently been slaying and topped the female artists of the 00s chart with three albums. Many of her singles have become iconic and she is now a talented, worldwide superstar, who never fails to grow as an artists with every new album. Not just that she is also a Rnb artist (mostly), and yet is so successful.
I suppose Britney is right on the edge of becoming a ledgend, but to be honest i dont think that ever since 2004, she has fully DOMINATED the charts. Like being number one for 10 weeks.

|
You don't know that for sure, though. I think both Britney and Beyonce will continue to tour until they grow tired of it...ppl have been saying Britney is going to retire for years now yet I'm not sure they follow her enough to know how much she loves touring and that the music side is her favorite part...she's not here for the other aspects (which I hate but I will deal).
Like most things Britney, ppl believe certain things and she will prove them wrong as she always done. 14+ year career...won't even get into all her accolades except most successful female artist of the 21st century...so yeah.

Work it

Neither are most veterans but there are those few like Beyonce who are still close to where they were in the beginning.
She experienced several public scandals that made headlines, but one can never forget all that she accomplished and continues to accomplish over the years because of that. People downplay Britney's talents all the time.
And she survived it all and maintained a successul career. Controversy doesn't equal longevity or respect. I mean Courtney had similar issues and now that she is sober it is kind of like...so what. Ppl only care when she is doing something bad. I still luv ha...For every britney, there are 5 courtney loves just like for every Drew Barrymore/Robert Downey, there are 5 Lindsay lohans. Britney was an icon before her downfall (being the best solo teenage artist of all time) but she became a legend of her fall and comeback to cement that legacy. True tea...:coffee2:

Yeah...she's to me a dark horse.
I feel as though there are many artist but few are one of a kind. On that list combining success+impact+influence+ being in a league of their own...Pink is like the modern day Janis Joplin. I actually consider her a legend although I can completely understand why many don't or only consider her an icon.

I hear ya...they do it because it is easy. Her lipping so often and not doing what many others do (Steal credit to try and show they are the ones in control or pushing an image of doing it all themselves) and instead being more honest in her approach doesn't help. Overall, she has done things to prove she is an amazing artist but she has one obvious weak point that people will always point at. As long as they are talking. Back in 99's, did they think they still would in 2012 All Britney needs to do is continue in her longevity and laugh all the way to the bank.
