If a fan really likes a song, he/she will download the song so he/she can listen to it in a location where Spotify is not accessible. For example, not all gyms have perfect internet connections, and not all customers have unlimited data on their phone plans.
For that reason, there is a core number of songs that are their favorites, and other songs that are liked but the fans can live without for a while can get streamed. I still stand by 40%+ sales (including digital downloads along ringtones, ringback tones, physical singles (yes, the last three totals are very small) > airplay = on-demand/audio streaming > video streaming.
So, here is the Hot 100 formula, and the recurrent rule changed to 50/26/-4 or 50/30/-4 instead of 50/20/-2 or 3:
Sales 40-45% > Airplay 25-30% = Audio/On-Demand Streaming 25-30% > Video Streaming > 5-10%.
