Oscars are meant to be about one performance, not about careers or filmographies. Holding their other work against them is dumb. The best / most acclaimed performance should win, and if it ends up being Natalie then it should be. She shouldn't lose just because she's got other bad films, or because she's already won before. She should lose because someone else gave a better performance than her, which may very well happen considering the strength of the category this year. Anyways, I don't think I'll be disappointed regardless of who ends up winning. I love 'em all.
But if we want to go there... Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart, and Amy Adams (all major figures in Oscar conversations this year) have career averages in the mid-upper 50s on metacritic, which puts them all in the same league as Natalie Portman.
