02. Britney Spears - GIMME MORE
"Center of attention
Even when we're up against the wall
You got me in a crazy position
If you're on a mission
You got my permission"
IT'S BRITNEY, BITCH!! She was definitely the center of attention in 2007. Not exactly for the best reasons, though. For me, being the big fan I am, it was hard to watch everything that went wrong in what concerns Britney's personal life and career.
Surprisingly, when she was in the 'eye of the storm', she somehow managed to released her best album to date. And no song could have been a better lead single to this album than 'Gimme More' and its extremely catchy beats - I doubt there are many people able to deny how infectious those 'gimme gimme gimme's are. And what to say about 'It's Britney, bitch'? OMG, I don't think I'll ever see a better opening line.
However, I've been watching Britney closely since 2000. I've seen this woman on top of the world, focused, on top of her game - Nobody was close to her PERFECTION. So, it was only fair I expected her to come back big, to overcome all the bad press, to get herself together; I expected a great performance, I expected a great video. I didn't get any of that. And that's why she's not #1 this year, even if 'Gimme More' is my #1 most played song of 2007 BY FAR.
Still IN SHOCK? lol Don't faint just yet, check my #1 before!!
So, the of 2007 goes to:

01. Nelly Furtado - SAY IT RIGHT
"In the day, in the night
Say it right, say it all
You either got it or you don't
You either stand or you fall
When your will is broken
When it slips from your hand
When there's no time for joking
There's a hole in the plan"
For starters, this is the first time 'Say It Right' charts - It was only released worldwide this year, so I didn't premiere it in my personal countdown in 2006; Which means it didn't suffer the same fate 'All Good Things' suffered. It had a whole year to chart, and here it is: after being the runner-up last year with 'Promiscuous', Nelly takes the top spot of my chart and joins Britney Spears (2003 & 2004), Kelly Clarkson (2005) and Snow Patrol (2006) in the group of previous winners.
It was kinda a surprise to me to see Nelly dominated the world for a second straight year. I mean, I know perfectly well 'Loose' is a great record, but it's rare to see the same artist topping the charts everywhere for two years in a row, even when you have a super successful album - I mean, we all have seen that in the past, haven't we? The thing is, Nelly proved all you have to do is to be commited. When you are commited, you are focused and you can go anywhere, reach anything. And you're definitely gonna be able to create wonderful melodies like 'Say It Right'. The lyrics may be simple, but thanks to Nelly's unique voice and Timbaland at his peak, this is a song to be remembered as a truly CLASSIC from our times.
