Welp, no lies. Controversy isn't going to help sell these days. And those of you complaining obviously feel like he's taking a jab at your fave. Like another poster stated, hit dogs will holler.

Hell he is on a "tour" across the country just randomly visiting his twitter followers and bringing them lunch no performances or anything.
Even in "Note To Self" he mentions NUMEROUS times that he didnt do it for the sales. Thats why he chose to release this way.
And the no features, no singles bit is in reference to him not having ANY features on his album, and not releasing any singles prior to the album being released. He did 350k just because people wanted to buy his music.
So yes the numbers are humbling because he did better than he thought he could ever do but then again its something that he never was looking at in the first place. Yall need to STOP.
EDIT: Alot of the music this year WAS trash. So no, he wasn't lying. The ones who are butt hurt over his comment are the hit dogs HOLLERING

Thank you!

Pop girls stans are mad when the modern female artist archetype is the definition of trash and no substance. This is the same site that praises the hell out of no talent sex kittens swimming in auto-tune. A damn shame.

Getting sexist vibes from this post.
What makes female pop stars and rappers any less substantial than male pop stars and rappers?

Hit dogs holler. That being said, J.Cole is bland as ****. And his album was mediocre.

It's obvious he made the statement he made with Nicki in mind. Otherwise, why would he include his first week #'s? Drake, Kanye, Em, Jay, Lil Wayne all open with/sell more than Cole "serving trash"/releasing singles, features, and radio fodder, so it certainly isn't about them.
Maybe Cole just has terrible timing and is completely unaware that Nicki just dropped an album too...

Meek Mill, Future, 2 Chainz. A damn shame.
Every genre has its weak links.

Y'all are so insecure. His album JUST came out last week. That's why he's mentioning HIS numbers. No one thought he would do those numbers. Not everything revolves around your faves. He would have made that tweet rather TPP was released or not, because again, it's in reference to HIS work and expectations.

I honestly think he used the numbers as a testament to his loyal fanbase.
As in "you don't need X, Y and Z" to sell this much. I guess the shoe fits Nicki in a number of ways but it sounded like a general statement.
Either way, I don't like this guy and his smug ass.

it doesn't read any other way...he could've said "this is a lesson to the music industry...don't doubt me" and then no one would have a problem

It's terrible timing for the Barbz, but not for him. He did the least and is receiving the most. If anything it's shade towards those who make crappy music and get crappy numbers. Now whether someone feels this describes their faves is on them, not Cole.

And who outdide of the U.S or better yet their fanbases know those artists. Pop artists and particilarly women popstsrs are renown globally, pushed down our throats by media daily and often hyped up yet fail to deliver. Its quantity without quality or substance. It almost turns me off these days to see another formulaic max martin penned/produced hit some "it" girl releases just for it to sail ontop of the charts and play every 3 seconds on radio yet the poor girl cant even sing it live.

i haven't liked him in years but this album rollout, the music itself, and his recent actions have made me interested again. i'm proud of the numbers he pulled and i absolutely agree- if people connect with you and your music is good, they will buy it.

When J's next album flops what will he say then? Or maybe we could say stop serving trash.

I do agree that most pop girls lack of quality music, so I get where you're coming from. But get this - you are not their target audience. You click, buy and support what you want to listen to. Or do you still listen to radio or watch MTV? I doubt that. So there is no point in getting so upset over majority of people not enjoying the same entertainment that you enjoy. Keep in mind that most of GP isn't as passionate as we are about music. It's just a form of disposable entertainment for them.
