Thank you boo! I think you might reconsider both of them.
In Duffy's case, she got a bad rep with all the "wannabe Amy" stuff, because that wasn't even what she was doing. She was on some Brill Building meets Northern Soul tip. Think Lulu, Petula Clark - those types of singers. She did quite well for what she attempted.

Its funny because I'm listening to her now and this is a far cry from the 60's girl group vibe that Amy channeled on B2B. This is very Brill Building, Dionne Warwick, almost 60's movie soundtrack-ish. Bart, you know your music my friend. This isn't bad but her voice is grating. Who produced her album?

I never really got that either.
It's so boring how people are unable to handle an act on it's own merits and influences and immediately have to compare it to the last act they heard.

I think Bernard Butler? She moved on to the guy from The Strokes' dad for the second. And Questlove too! I kinda prefer her second album; more rhythmic - although her vocal ticks are kinda ooc on some songs.

Unfortunately, that's not even the lowest ranked collaboration.
People really need to get over this bizarre thing they have against T-Pain to be honest.
He's kinda a genius?

Yeah this sound is amazing with those singers but Duffy just doesn't have the voice to pull this off convincingly. She sound cutesy and ditzy like she's playing dress up in her grandmother's closet. I think her best score from me will be a shocker

I need another day to do this. It's 57 songs and I'm about half way through.
I was doing Keir's rate, so I only had two days notice about this.
Anyways, am I missing something with Hometown Glory and Make You Feel My Love, or are they boring?

I don't have anything against T-Pain. Reverse Cowgirl ***** on lives.
I just really, really don't like that song. I think it's T-Pain at his most uncreative, but at least Lily got some paper to buy her baby's pampers out of it (and you KNOW that's why she did it)

OMG Bart, this is why I love you...... I so agree. I thought it would be a shocker but nope. You on the same page with me
I'm onto Florence..... I forgot she had this many singles. I like her but for some reason I'm just not compelled to download her albums and really get in. Something holds me back and IDK what it is exactly.

Florence really screwed up her singles!
How come Howl, Blinding, Hardest of Hearts, Only If for a Night, and Spectrum never were/are not yet singles?
And You Got the Love and Kiss With a Fist are singles.
Oh well, Rabbit Heart blows the competition away.

5 oclock is the same level as that Jason Derulo song that sampled Imogen heap. It just seems so lazy, and like they didn't put any effort into the song at all and let the sampling do all the work.

Make You Feel My Love is amazing!!!!!!!
Hometown Glory is a bombastic BORE!! A lot of her debut is a bore which is why I didn't really go UP for her like I do now. Her 2nd album with all hype put aside.... legitimately ***** and is the type of album that is right up my alley. The same can be said with Christina, Kelly Clarkson, & P!nk.... I barely use their debuts but their sophomores is where they really broke out. I was stanning for Chrissy & Kelly by the 3rd album. P!nk won me over with her 4th. I can't wait for Adele's 3rd.

That's how I felt too! I downloaded the re-release of her first album like last year, but didn't really fully listen to it ...
... until this rate.
It's pretty solid! I'll never be fully on board with Florence; I'm too much of a Kate Bush fan for that. (See Leona/Mariah, Nicki/Kim, etc and so forth.) But the songs really do work.
The second album ... there comes a point where maximalism crosses the line. The second album found that point, and never left it. But then Shake It Out IS the best thing she's ever done?

SO much truth. I thought I loved the second album, and then I realized it was a bunch of average samey songs that were just riding off the masterpiece that is Shake It Out.

Hometown Glory has some really clumsy, muddled lyrics - most of the songs are the first album do - but it's hard not to get swept up in the feeling of it all.
But Chasing Pavements is the star of that CD.
