Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular by the 1990s. The 'alternative' definition refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music, expressed primarily in a distorted guitar sound, transgressive lyrics and generally a nonchalant, defiant attitude.

Supermassive Black Hole - Muse
Madness - Muse
Street Spirit (Fade Out) - Radiohead
Radiohead, a british band from Abingdon, is one of my favorite alternative rock groups and this song is one of their best. It's representative of the genre because it's based on the guitar and the vocals, like most sub genres of rock music, but it's all about simplicity and melody which is one of the main elements that set alt rock apart from other genres.
Creep - Radiohead
What a timeless bop tbh. Such a classic
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall - Coldplay
Yellow - Coldplay
Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz
Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs
It has prominent guitars, slightly angsty lyrics and a rebellious attitude - alt rock at its finest!
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Things We Lost In the Fire - Bastille
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths
Wonderwall - Oasis
Wonderwall is one of the biggest hits of the 1990s, the age of Alternative Rock. It is also the biggest hit by the British group, Oasis. With over 100 million views on YouTube, posted 13 years after release, this song passes the test of time in terms of success and quality.
Chocolate - The 1975
This emerging British alternative rock band's most iconic single makes up a true alternative rock song. Distorted guitar sound? Yes, it's guitar sound makes the song very distinct and stays in your mind for so long that you get addicted to the song. Transgressive lyrics? Yes! This song talks about an escapade with drugs. Nonchalant, defiant attitude?Yes, it has the cool feel, an alternative song should have.
Walk Through Walls - Kyla La Grange
Uprising - Muse
Straight to Hell - The Clash
I've decided to use The Clash and their amazing song "Straight To Hell". The song was about concerns about abandonment of children in the Vietnam War and unemployment in Northern England. The full song is roughly about seven minutes long and has been sampled numerous times including "Paper Planes" and Lily Allen covered it for the War Child album. The British band was inducted in the Rock n Roll hall of fame and helped span a revival of British alternative that has heavily influenced current British bands.
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys
I chose "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" by the Arctic Monkeys because it's a fun song filled with awesome guitar playing and crazy, defiant lyrics
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
When I read the challenge was Brittish Alternative song, there was one band who instantly popped in my head; The Cure. Many of The Cure songs are somber and depressing, and I know that the whole Alternative genre can also be like that, and I know ATRLers are going to get bored if they listen to those kind of songs over and over while grading all the selections. I made it my mission to find a fun upbeat track, one that ATRL members will like and want to listen to again. I picked "Just Like Heaven". Considered by many as The Cure's best song, it's about the dizzying and tantalizing feeling that is love. It starts with each instrument one after another combining to create a smooth and slightly cheesy love song.*I hope you all enjoy!
Coldplay, Muse and Radiohead each have 3 entries, which violates the rule that prohibits players to send 3 or more songs from the same artist. As such, all players who sent Coldplay, Muse and Radiohead will be given a 10 point penalty.

don't you think that would be unfair to the people who might have thought of sending in U2 but didn't because they realised they don't meet the criteria?

Yeah but it's my fault for not checking and there's nothing much I can do bout this.

It's just as much their fault for not properly checking if it's actually a British band. First and foremost the players need to make sure their entries don't clash with the rules.
I normally wouldn't even care, but I thought of sending U2 and then remembered they are Irish so I didn't, and it kinda pisses me off that someone else now gets away with it. At least give them a penalty for being so careless.
