Black Beatles isn't actually that bad, it could have been worse like Panda or those other viral hits
All My Friends Tinashe's best feature (excluding Slumber Party but it was already amazing without)

#35. Preoccupations - 'Preoccupations'
Genre: Post-Punk, Art Punk, Darkwave, Synth Punk, Noise Rock
Label: Jagjaguwar || Country: Canada
While this is certainly not a reinvention for the band, it really does feel like some sort of “new beginning” (as implied by the name change in some way. The guitars, the influences, the vocals and the songwriting are still there, but they incorporate a bit of drone as well as the usage of synthesizers. A lot of synthesizers. This record feels just about as interesting and seems to be about the same quality-wise as their debut, and that’s in part because it feels as fresh and new as a debut album, in some kind of way. While this doesn’t feel like a complete departure from the style Matt Flegel and company did with the band Women, it certainly feels like there has been some evolution over the years.
#34. Róisín Murphy - 'Take Her Up to Monto'
Genre: Art Pop, Glitch Pop, Progressive Pop, Electropop, IDM, Microhouse
Label: PIAS || Country: Ireland
On last year's ‘Hairless Toys’ Róisín proved that with her new music, her intention was to move away from the dance-pop of 'Overpowered’ into something that’s definitely more experimental, leftfield. But where that record was soft, vulnerable and mysterious, 'Take Her Up To Monto’, released just one year after that album, and taken from the same sessions with producer Eddie Stevens, is sharp, aggressive and at times, almost industrial. Inspired by the city life and the ballroom scene, at first it’s hard to notice, but once you give the album a few more listens, you can definitely hear the influence of club music, used in a completely unusual way, and I find that interesting. Whether she decides to go back to pure pop music or not it’s something we can’t tell for real, but she’s doing great at the moment, so don’t fix what ain’t broken, right?
Highlights: “Mastermind”, “Thoughts Wasted”, “Ten Miles High”, “Whatever”, “Romantic Comedy”, “Sitting and Counting”
You’ll like it if you like: Moloko, FKA twigs, The Knife, Holly Herndon, Olga Bell, Nicolas Jaar
#33. Junior Boys - 'Big Black Coat'
Genre: Electropop, Synthpop, Glitch Pop, Tech House
Label: City Slang || Country: Canada
Despite being one of the most important synthpop acts of the 00’s, along with The Knife, Crystal Castles, Ladytron or Hot Chip, I always felt like Junior Boys were extremely underrated. They never really had enormous commercial success, and except for their debut album, they’ve never been “critical darlings”. In 2016 they're back with a new record, and sonically, it’s not that differnet from their previous output, but there are new, interesting and exciting elements on this one. Not every idea on the record works though, but that doesn’t stop this from being one of their best in their catalog to date (and maybe even their best since ’So This Is Goodbye’), and proves that they deserve any amount of attention possible.
Highlights: "Over It", “Baby Give Up on It”, “M & P”, “No One’s Business”, “And It’s Forever”, “Big Black Coat”
You’ll like it if you like: CHVRCHES, Daniel Avery, Jessy Lanza
#32. Motion Graphics - 'Motion Graphics'
Genre: Glitch Pop, UK Bass, Sound Collage, Art Pop, Alternative R&B
Label: Domino || Country: USA
Joseph Williams released his first album, ‘Smoke’, under the name of White Williams, in 2007. Despite being obviously an indie-pop record, he added influences of many other genres such as IDM, psychedelic rock, synthpop and new wave, but after that, not much was known about him. Almost a decade later, he is back with another album, this time under the name of Motion Graphics. And despite the fact that he has pop sensibilities that were present in that album, this project’s debut self-titled album sounds totally different from that. Despite being kind of like a mixture of every modern experimental-electronic-pop act, taking elements from diverse artists, I don’t think that I have ever heard something that sounds quite like this.
#31. Dedekind Cut - '$UCCESSOR'
Genre: Ambient, Progressive Electronic, Post-Industrial, Glitch, Sound Collage, New Age
Label: NON/Hospital || Country: USA
Producer Fred Warmsley used to make music under the name Lee Bannon, but he decided to ditch that stage name, as he felt the music released under that name had “reached its limit”. Now, going by Dedekind Cut, he has plenty of releases under that name – three EP’s: ‘Thot Enhancer’, ‘R&D’ with Rabit, and ‘American Zen’. The first two alternated between industrial-bass, trap, grime and hardstyle, but the latter was totally ambient. On his first album under this project, Warmsley takes this route, and he seems to fully develop the ideas found on his latest EP, expanding them into something that feels complete. It is truly one of the best ambient records of the year, and I’m hoping to hear more from this project soon.
Highlights: “Descend from Now”, “Instinct” (feat. Dominick Fernow), “Fear in Reverse”, “Maxine”, “5ucc3550r” (feat. Angel-Ho & Rabit), “46:50” (feat. Active Child”
You’ll like it if you like: Ben Frost, Roly Porter, Angel-Ho, Coil, Tim Hecker, Laurie Anderson, Oneohtrix Point Never

Hotter Than Hell is not good as Be the One, but still
Sorry
I Wanna Be the hit that got away
Fade in the trinity of Pablo
Take Her Up to Monto is good overall, but nowhere close to HT & Overpowered
Finally someone recognizes the talent that is Ashes of Love Sorry and Fade are my other favs Big Black Coat and $UCCESSOR were great, I loved the track with DJ Shadow from the latter
Motion Graphics was enjoyable and with that name I think I knew what to expect. Same with Preoccupations ST.
The Motion Graphics album I discovered by its album cover, it's just soooo great.

Ashes of Love is pure talent. And the song with Shadow was actually not one of my favorites, but I still like it!

Baby Give Up on It
I actually like the name Preoccupations better than VC. Unproblematic kings!
