Yea, mathematics is terribly important. Although it may not have direct implications, I do think high-school level math is integral to the development of certain higher-order, executive function skills.
Like for instance statistics. You may not need to calculate anything in real life but learning the concepts of randomness, chance and probability are so important to being logical. Eliminating math would be so backwards
edit - Calculus is the one exception. I do think it's important to take, it's applicable to many fields. but pretty much irrelevant to everything else though
