You're right, now that I think about it. It's her early albums that were like half covers that I don't particularly care for, though I love all of those songs you mentioned. The entire It's A Man's World album is one of my favorites.

I bought a triple album box set the other day with It's A Man's World, Believe and Living Proof in it (and I bought Closer To The Truth on top of that) and I don't know why I didn't get into Cher sooner

Okay then you're on the right track with Believe and CTTT. You could also give her disco days a shot, the albums Take Me Home and Prisoner are both similar, although obviously much more toned down because of the earlier recording period.

I think "It's a Man's World" is actually such a good album.
It definitely is. I love how even though it's a covers album you don't feel like you listen to Cher singing covers because they chose great but rather unknown songs (at least to me, and I belive I have quite some knowledge about music history).
"One By One" and "The Gunman" have to be her best vocal showwcases ever tbh.
It's a Man's World is probably in Cher's trinity of albums, tbh. "One by One" and "Walking in Memphis" >>> I might put Living Proof or Closer to the Truth up there, too.
Also, "The Power", "Dark Lady", "Hell On Wheels" and "I Saw a Man and He Danced With His Wife" are all criminally underrated.
Heart of Stone and "Heart of Stone" remain her best album and song, obviously.
