So cyberbullying hurt you like hell, now imagine YOUR OWN MOTHER performing an exorcism on you. As a victim of bullying yourself you should be more understanding to his situation.

I was the victim of cyberbullying and it ****ing hurt like hell for me emotionally. But I got through that by finding things in life that I could look forward to like school dances, album releases, The Sims 2 and Sims 3, and etc and I emotionally came back stronger than ever and I've healed.
I know that 19 years of torture means that it would take awhile to heal, but he should have just lived life one day at a time, and should have tried looking forward to even the smallest things to keep him going. Everyone heals at their own pace, and it took me probably a year to completely heal but I know that suicide was never an option for me. He could have made a lot better choices and not take the "easy way out".

Well whatever. If you guys think I'm being a jerk, so be it, idgaf. Because I'm really not trying to be one. I'm just saying that if he had done some things like I had mentioned above he might still be here today.
My opinion on people and the world is so different from everyone else's. You just have to deal with it, because what I think could have been done to prevent this is different than what other people think.
Positivity goes a long way, and he was clearly thinking negatively about his life when he committed suicide. The negative part is understandable, but he should have at least talked to someone about killing himself or what not. I learned this in Health. If he talked to these "friends" that he made since coming out, he might still be here today.

Stop trying to generalize depression, everyone is affected differently and cope with it differently. You don't know what was going through his head all this years so just stop

Well unfortunatley my life has been a lot more fortunate, ESPECIALLY high school and my home life. The bullying itself came from the gay community, not the straight community. And plus, I have Aspergers...all I have to say on that because I still don't understand how Aspergers works on me.
Anyways, I can understand the pain he's going through, but I probably won't ever understand some ****ed up family like his.

Would you guys just give me a ****ing break? I may not understand depression, but I know that positivity ALWAYS works out in the long run.
Seriously, I try so hard to be nice and positive on here, and you bitches just lash out at me.

The sad part here is that 99.9% of you guys are nothing like me, so of course my opinions on serious issues always gets rejected for being too controversial.

HE DID! His suicide note mentions loving Lady Gaga, and he worked for the ****ing Trevor Project, for heaven's sake. He clearly sought out positive things in his life. And look where he ended up.

Thats the problem, Positivity doesn't always work because some people are not able to be positive, their minds just doesn't work like that. Its the reason why some take meds, need a psychiatrist, etc.

Well yeah. I meant to put that in there as well. I did mention before that he should have talked to someone about this and maybe he could have gotten more help.

Exorcisms, beatings and extreme Christianity pervaded his young life and did not “cure” him. “Disgusting, perverted, unnatural and going to hell” is what his parents told him as he was kicked out of his home.

HE. DID. He worked for the Trevor Project! That's what they DO! That article was written by someone who knew him, and it's full of details about the horrors he went through. You really think that person just said "Hm, interesting" and filed it away for later use in his obituary? Spoilers: No, they didn't.

what worrys me is that sometimes the LBGT groups like It Gets Better do more harm than good for those involved and how they deal with their problems. clearly this guys upbringing and treatment at school was terrible but he survived it at least until adulthood .. but then as an advocate for these groups it was his job to discuss his pain and bullying in front of others over and over. even in the video he seemed conflicted, no doubt he had to do this many times as a LGBT speaker (i can understand if he wanted to help other but he clearly needed to help himself first) how would he ever be able to move on and live his life if he had to relive his worst moments again and again?
LGBT are good for those who need guidance but i think people who allow it to define who they are end up worse than people who choose to just get on with it

but it's not really It Gets Better's fault that he wasn't ready to handle that emotionally. It was his own choice to speak to anyone, really. You can't say that the group is doing more harm than good; they didn't force anyone to do anything. I don't think there's even really anything that could justify such a claim bar situations like that.
Anyway, what exactly happens in an exorcism in 2012? Why do people believe that's...possible?

It's unsettling to know some of these victims made 'It Gets Better' videos. It raises the question, "does it really get better?"
