The "declining" artist's album hasn't even leaked yet, how do you know that Katy failed to outsell her ? Are you perhaps a prophet ?

Kind of disappointing. I was expecting at least 500k, to be honest.
But it might be higher than anything RIhanna's ever done, so

But unlike Gaga, Katy will see an increase of almost 50%, which is ironic because that's the same % that Gaga will see but in decrease

I just can't at the Katy fans saying this is an improvement because of a 100k raise to an already mediocre debut. she's supossed to be big now, she's a girl with 9 #1 hits. After the Bad era, MJ had a #1 album that stayed on top for 4 weeks and sold 7 million in 2 months, Katy can't even sell 500k.

Even Rihanna does more promo than Britney so, let's not.

TD:TCC was also sold at 0.99 in Amazon.

It only had 2 singles after the album release, you can't expect it to stay in the charts by itself.

|
What does her being or not the biggest popstar in the world has anything to do with the topic in hand when we are clearly talking about US first week album sales.
If you really expected huge numbers considering she has never been a big first week seller then you are clearly delusional. You all cling to "But the "massive" promo!!1111" when in reality she has never been that kind of artist that people rush to buy their albums as soon as they hit the stores. Doing promo and hit singles doesn't guarantee AMAZING album sells, it depends on the artist, so I'm happy shes getting great promo so she can best her first week sales, which she's clearly gonna do. Longevity is her strongest point, so I hope she can maintain that.

Why does her success bother you? She accomplished an almost 300K debut with no trickery, no apps, no special promotional rate. She told 192K last album. This is a MAJOR improvement. Stay mad though.
|
Biggest pop star in the world yet can't even get 500,000 first week, ok sis. It's funny cause her fans were coming for Gaga with her first week sales, and now it's hitting them back twice as hard.
Also no special promo rate? Sis pepsi were giving out roar literally for free as a means of special promo, don't tell me you actually believe what you just wrote.

While you're busy worrying about katy's numbers ,you might want to grab an atlas to better "express youself"

I can't wait for Monsters' reactions if ARTPOP sells less.

Well we'll have to wait until the end of their runs to see who sells more because first week sales can't really tell what will happen in the end.
There are so many examples of albums which almost half of their total sales came in the first week

On one hand, I want it to flop so hard and for ARTPOP to win in this sales battle.
On the other hand, it's a generally nice album and I want it to do well.

The sad thing about this thread is how well the Katy fans are taking it and how upset Monsters are

Yeah and relatively if Artpop does 50% of BTW it will still have around 200% of PRISM first week.
You need to look objectively at sales otherwise even Ciara can be shown as better seller than Gaga
