As somebody who despised pop music for a long time and is now finally interested in it I can say without a doubt this is the most INTERESTING full of life era of pop music. I would consider the most empty moment in pop to be that period after the 90s up until a few years ago. I don't even remember any standout stars during that period. It was so... boring. The videos- everything.
Big artists like Whitney Houston didn't write their own lyrics and you feel connected with Whitney when you listen one of her songs.
The person who brought up this point originally isn't talking about how YOU connect with the music, although you do make a good point. We're talking about if Whitney herself connected to her music? How can an artist have a "personal" album they didn't write the majority of?
2012 is going to be such a boring year for music. The only thing I'm planning to buy this year is Katy's and Nicki's albums (and they're not even albums)...hopefully Ke$ha's coming album will be good.
