07. Filter - Soldiers of Misfortune It was great to see Filter return in 2008. "Soldiers of Misfortune" is the Filter we all loved from the past. Rock radio was really supportive of this song as it peaked at #27 on the Hot Mainstream Rock chart.
06. Fireflight - Unbreakable I discovered this band thanks to TVU's Most Wanted and thank god I did. I fell in love with them at first listen. They remind me a lot of Flyleaf and Evanescence, which is a plus. I downloaded the whole album and it has some really good tracks.
05. KoRn - Kiss 'Kiss" is just so damn beautiful, it is hard to put into words. The intense lyrics from Jonathan are what makes the song what it is. It is a shame radio gave this song the shaft because it could have been a hit on radio.
Only 4 songs remain. Any guesses on what they could be?
Whoa, I don't think I've heard much from the latest Filter... that shall be changed soon.
In general, I don't really know much from this set. I am looking forward to seeing the top four though!
Before we get to the #1 of 2008, here is songs 4-2.
04. Ashes Divide - The Stone There is really not much else to say about this band that I have not said before. The guys truly deserved all the success they got with this song. "The Stone" is one of those songs that I could listen to it over and over and it not get old. Radio played this one a lot and it peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
03. Red - Already Over Ever since I first heard this song back in 2007, I knew it had to be a single. It was just too damn good not to be. Come 2008, my wishes were granted. "Already Over" spent 10 days at #1 on my personal countdown and went on to retire as well. The song peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The band's new album is to be released on February 10, 2009. You can expect to see these guys make the list next year.
02. Linkin Park - Leave Out All the Rest For the 2nd straight year, Linkin Park are #2 on my year-end list. The lyrics are deep, Chester's vocals are amazing, and the video is definitely one of the best this year. Why this song was ignored by radio is beyond me. It was the 1st single to fail to me reach the top 5 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart since "Papercut". The guys are in the studio and rumor has it the new album might be released in late 2009. Chester's solo album is also expected to be released sometime in 2009.
By now, a lot of you should know what my #1 is. Come back tomorrow to find out.
