Adele is a album seller beast! The thing is in the states she's absolutely nowhere doing anything. The poor thing is at home recovering from her sickness.

Rihanna does not sell albums amazingly in the US, just good. GaGa obviously has a more devoted fanbase in the US.

Drops, particularly second week drops, are important because it gives you an idea of how an album could fare in longevity.
170k to 170k would make me think that even though this album opened up with moderate numbers, its drop shows me that it could push big numbers in the long-run or have longevity on the charts.
Something like 1 million to 170k just makes those numbers look front-loaded and people should question whether the album will have longevity on the charts. It all depends on promo, hits, etc. If GaGa has that, she will be fine.

Like Cap10 said, it's just a sign of how the album might do in the next few weeks. That 85% is not only due to the Amazon deal. It's due to the major lack of retail sales, major decrease in general digital purchases, and then of course the Amazon thing comes in. As a whole, it's just a terrible decrease. If the album was actually selling, it could've been more stable in physical sales, at least.
While it's obvious we can look at it as 1 million people bought it last week, of course it's going to drop. That can also be viewed as 1 million people bought it, now hardly 170k did. They're two valid arguments, IMO. One side can't be ignored to liken your theory.

yep you do have a point.
anyway, I wouldn't be worried about the album's sales at all. remember troy's interviews, they are going to spend years promoting this album, so I can see it reaching 3 million easily and maybe more.

But the album that sold 300K second week has a better outlook. It's going to have better overall sales & better longetivity. The album that dropped to 100K isn't going to hold up as well in the end.
However, I use sales when people mock the drop. The sales are still 170K, a pretty good number when looked at not considering the drop. When I see people critcize the drop who's faves did not sell that much more in the first week, it bothers me. Or people who mock it when their fav's second week was half as much.
And mock =/= criticism. I'm here for people discussing it without the flamebait,.

It wouldn't be the same, because you're automatically assuming it'd sell the exact same. The standpoint isn't about the sales, for me. We ALL knew it would drop. How far is the issue. If it did 900k and dropped 100k, or even opened with 400k and drop to 70k, it'd still be bad. Like I said above, there are a lot of issues with how it's sales are going, not just the lack of the $1 album.

I agree, and I don't think it's a good drop by any means, I'm just not sure what people would have had them do differently. They made a big push for the first week and saw a great result, but it's not like there will be no promo from here on out.

But Carter says the unique marketing tools used leading up to and during the album's release wasn't just to achieve monster sales for the album's debut.
"Nobody ever pays attention in the second week," he said. "For us it's about being in this album cycle for the next 18 to 24 months."

BTW will probably be re-released in the fall with a huge pop smash.

I agree there, as far as possible future promo keeping the album afloat. I don't necessarily expect the album to keep dropping like this, it just should be somewhat worrying until we see how it goes from here on out.

There's nothing outlandish there. He's just implying they will be promoting this around the world for months on end.

I don't see this happening. Like KRL said, I believe they'll promote Born This Way for a good couple of years with plenty of singles.

If Lady GaGa is able to have longevity on the charts like Adele, who continues to sell over 100K every week.... 2X platinum is certain!

Does that even help? I mean look at Britney's poor sales - did TTWE videos make any impact?
